I've had friends in the past that would catcall and some were successful in talking with the girl and even one hooked up doing it that way. I never liked the method and don't think I've ever tried it for various reasons but I don't think it's a good way to get someone's attention. I'm more of a "hello, can I ask you a question" type of person. Thankfully I'm not at all in that stage of my life any longer lol but I think my son will likely be the same way as me and not partake in that type of behavior.

I just can't understand why they did that, I mean Catcalling. And yeah, I've been catcalled so many time. And i hate it!

Not that I am vouching for catcalling, but the one that happened in South Africa (to my wife) was far more playful that the one in France. My wife had to take a train last week to commute from one Airport to the next, and some creepy dude sat next to her on the train was being truly horrible, not nice at all. I appreciate the fact that people start calling out dudes doing this shit invading someone's personal space (let's face it, it's a male issue in most cases, though I've heard of stories involving women catcalling too), I would have been there, I can tell ya what I would have done, give him a big hug with rear naked choke. 
Of course there is a difference between catcalling and harassing someone, but it all comes from the same assumption that it's an "ok" behavior, and I guess it needs to be called out once and for all. Also as a French, I've seen rare occurrences where the catcalling was kinda ok, and by this I mean funny and romantic and made the girl giggle. We are humans after all.

Me, I am advocating for Martial Art at every corner, get a black belt, and fuck them up if someone is being disrespectful. Guys like this should be 100% kicked in the balls, every time. 

Unless, they're singing a song instead of whistling at someone, and in that case it's awesome, maybe next time say that :

When I was a teenager I got to witness a lot of this, but lately I haven't seen any of it. Could be because I spend little time in town, but I think people like you who stand up for themselves and turn the situation around have had a big effect on lowering the frequency of these behaviors. After all, its mainly a game of power, and they had only won for long because women hadn't embraced their power.

I liked your take on this, very inspiring to take no shit whether it's catcalling or other forms of harassment.

I’ve also been catcalled all my life especially when I was a minor! It’s so disgustingly common that they think it’s okay. I think it’s not even attention that they want, they just want to make you feel uncomfortable. Once you give them the attention and confront them, they get scared at least most of them. There was this one video of social experiment I watched and it was a woman walking down the street and when catcalled, responds to that in a positive note like “let’s marry” or something like that. These offenders immediately become uncomfortable cos they didn’t expect them to respond back. Showing confidence and being assertive definitely shifts the power back to you. It was a nice thing you can do that as most can’t. Fuck these disgusting people, educated or not it’s just common decency for them not to do that.

Some guys are just weird, there's no two ways about it. Have you noticed that most of the time catcalling is a "group activity"? They say that the IQ of a crowd is around 30 and it's clearly demonstrated when guys hoot and honk. The intention is to dehumanise and that's what gets my goat. No woman feels beautiful, admired or special when her body parts become more than her whole.

Wow @millycf1976 friend... A controversial topic (at least here in my country, where chauvinism is a daily occurrence even at this point in the 21st century).... Here it is still very common and we grow up seeing it happen as something "common" (it is unfortunate, but Venezuela is years behind in many civic behaviors, believe me)... My mother is a retired teacher and has a hellishly rigid and correct character, so I was fortunate enough to grow up educated (and warned) to avoid committing unpleasant acts like whistling, complimenting or harassing a woman in any way, even if it is someone I know.... But you can imagine the amount of problems that this brought me in my adolescent and teenage years!... My classmates in elementary and high school saw my behavior as very strange!... It's a long story... I won't go on... (sometimes I write too much) ;-)

But back to your post, I still love the eloquence and fluency you have when writing.... It's as if your character "floats" in every line.... Excellent!... 

And.. What a beautiful cat!... I actually first thought it was about a cat pet posts!... (Sorry)... ha ha ha.... But I love cats (I have 7 of them).... My wife says she'll put me in a psychiatric center if I bring home one more cat!.... 😻

Good for you for standing up for yourself and women in general and not taking that sort of thing. I think your response to people who do that is good. It's assertive but not antagonistic. Very smart.  

**catcalling**! I don't actually know why their are some guys doing these! It was never okay for me too like I always get mad everytime I experienced such or even I am not the one being called.

I can empathise and totally understand you. This is one aspect of that beloved island that I despise. It is threatening and truly a violation. You described it all too well. You are correct one needs to assess the situation before reacting. It can be scary.

I hate any kind of intimidation, any act that creates discomfort or disturbance to the other and this is independent of gender, race or religious or sexual orientation; I believe that respect for people is fundamental and no one has the right to fail in this respect.

In my opinion you are tough and know how to react well to certain situations, but I imagine they are really annoying.

As a teenager, which is when the most catcalling ever happened to me, I usually would just give them the finger and not even look. One time, I was confronted by a classmate at school that he and his mom were driving past and he told his mom to honk and I flipped them off, and his mom started going on about what kind of friends did he have. I was like, dude, even if YOU didn't know, surely your mom knows that a strange car driving past honking at you is usually perverts trying to get your attention? He was like ...oh.
Another time much later in life, I was on the bus and this dude was loudly announcing what disgusting things he wanted to do to my body, and I was ignoring him. No one on the bus defended me, either. He got angry that I wasn't responding, stood up, learned over me and started screaming at me in a threatening way. So I smiled at him and said, Desole! Je ne comprends pas l'Anglais.
He stopped and said, OH you don't understand what I'm saying!, sat back down, and left me alone.
Yeah dude, it was only because I didn't understand your witty banter.
