Have you ever experienced the taste of being a leader or a teacher?  With these roles of power comes great responsibilities on our shoulders. What happens when you encounter mistakes while guiding your followers?  Do you keep moving with a view to fix it ahead or stop to admit the mistake and fix that right there? Questions, questions, and lots of questions.

Have you heard about the Costa Concordia disaster?  The Captain of that ship was charged with many allegations for his mistakes that caused the incident so severe and was sentenced to 16 years of imprisonment. There he made mistakes and tried to keep them hidden, when things went out of control to keep hidden or to fix the issue, he had to reveal the problem and the consequences led to the death of 32 passengers. If he had not delayed and taken the incident seriously when he realized the moment something was wrong, the damage could have been way less than now. I guess you should watch a documentary on this if you haven't already, one incident like the Titanic that is known to all, but this Concordia is recent and has a lesson for all. 

There were many times when I was leading, I encountered mistakes. In the beginning, I used to ignore them and move on, making them understand somehow. Later I realized it was some kind of cheating, I must accept the mistake and correct it right there. Who am I? Can't I make mistakes? Who doesn’t? Every human makes mistakes, it's wise to bear the burden and fix it instead of covering it. 

I used to have the mentality that my image would get lower if they realized their leader/teacher was making mistakes. But I forgot to make it a lesson that everyone can make mistakes, greatness is in accepting and fixing, and then I started to normalize this thing by accepting my mistakes with a smile.  What's the harm? Rather a life-long lesson to teach them as a part of the learning journey. 

I would love to know how you take this, it took me a long time for this transition. Now I can admit to the face of anyone that I have made a mistake, sometimes I would say sorry or apologize as per the requirements as well, and then the compensation. It's not easy to acquire this mindset but once mastered things seem so easy to tackle, who cares? Well, there is also a fact that sometimes some situations are so cruel that we lose our usual track, we get compelled to do what's supposed not to be done, those are the moments of the actual test, may we all overcome such hard challenges and come victorious.
