The moment I saw the dragon I fell in love . 

When he opened his eyes they were like two dark pools of black, and I couldn’t look away no matter how hard I tried to. He was beautiful – his scales a rich brown color that seemed almost iridescent and glistening with every movement. 

It only took me a few seconds before he spoke.
He sounded so calm as he asked, “Who are you?” It wasn’t aggressive or accusatory, but rather curious.

I hesitated for a fraction of a second too long before replying. 
“My name is Atsumu Sakusa,” I stammered out, not even sure why I would introduce myself in the first place since my life was already over. 
But I still had to at least give him something so he wouldn't turn me into nothing more than an empty husk.

His eyebrows arched upward slightly at my answer but it quickly smoothed back down. He didn’t seem to have any other reaction besides this one. 

“Sakusa, huh? I see.” He said thoughtfully and then closed his eyes once again.

His breathing began to slow down until he finally dropped asleep. My gaze remained glued to his face though as he slipped back to sleep. 

The light from the lantern cast a shadow on his body that I was fascinated by – especially his tail. I couldn’t understand how someone who looked like this could be part of such an evil organization. Even when I was a child I’d heard stories about the dragons – but never saw them for myself.

I stared at him for nearly half a minute longer than I probably should have. 
Eventually he shifted under my stare and sighed deeply, opening his eyes once again. 
The deep red color of his irises reflected the dim light and I found myself staring right back. My mouth suddenly went dry. What was wrong with me? I snapped my gaze away from his and glanced up towards the ceiling.

“Why are you looking up there?” he asked. His voice was deep and low yet soft somehow. I felt myself blush under his gaze and turned back to him.

“Sorry, I just don’t really get your beauty,” I mumbled.

I saw a small smirk play across his lips before he looked away, his smile fading slowly. It left me wondering what exactly that meant. Did he know how attractive he was? Was he disgusted by it? I knew the rumors about dragons but I didn’t think anyone would actually be able to tell. 

“Beauty?” He repeated softly, “You mean magic?” I nodded and watched as he closed his eyes again, taking in another breath before continuing, “That’s not magic. It’s biology.”

“Huh?” I said dumbly. He laughed and opened his eyes once more.

“You really aren’t very bright, are you?” He teased.

“Hey! I am pretty smart though! You don’t just talk nonsense and expect people to believe you!”

“Oh really now?” He said, raising an eyebrow, “And what if I tell you that my name is Kuroo and that I’m the last Dragon Prince? Would you believe me?”

“Of course, I would!” I replied confidently, “I’ve seen plenty of dragons in my lifetime. Dragons are kind of a staple to these parts.”

“Then prove it.”

“Hm?”

“Prove it to me.” He said calmly, “Show me your magic. That way, even if I am a prince, we can both acknowledge my superiority and you can continue believing in your stupid myths.”

“What do you mean by show you my magic?”

“Just trust me and do whatever I tell you to do. You don’t want to hurt my feelings, right?”

“No way! Of course not!” I replied quickly. He smiled warmly at me as if pleased with my response and then held out his hand. I took it carefully and was immediately enveloped in warmth. 

I gasped and tried to pull away, but he wouldn’t let go. Instead, he pulled me closer and laid his head on my lap. My heart pounded against my chest and I struggled against him, trying to break free.

“I won’t harm you. Stop struggling, I promise. Just relax.” He whispered into my ear before kissing my neck gently.

A shiver ran up my spine as he touched me there, tracing small patterns on the skin with his long fingernails. 
I whimpered and bit my lip as he moved down to kiss my shoulder. Then, with surprising strength, he grabbed my wrist and pinned my arm above my head. With a swift flick of his wrist, he sent a spark shooting through my veins and straight to my fingertips. 
The sparks flew everywhere like wildfire, lighting everything around us in a bright green glow. 

I screamed in pain and yanked my hands away, pulling on my hair and squeezing my eyes shut as I did so. 
When I felt his arms leave my body, I looked up cautiously and saw him sitting cross-legged next to me. His eyes were full of compassion and understanding. 
My heartbeat slowed as I recognized the look in his eyes. It reminded me of the ones my mom gave me whenever I hurt her feelings or embarrassed her.

“I’m sorry,” I said quietly, rubbing my arm where he held it.

“There’s nothing to apologize for. I was simply testing your abilities. If it was painful you could have told me, but instead you made it pleasant. How are you doing?” He asked kindly.

“Better. Thanks to you.” I replied shyly.

“Good. Now I think it’s about time that we settled some matters…”
