Freeman's Perspective on how increasing automation will affect the cronyist power structures that exist today

In this article, Paul Rosenberg examines what he calls _the deal,_ which is really that ephemeral social contract that so many people keep bringing up: be a good little worker, pay your taxes, do nothing without asking permission first, don't ask questions above your pay grade, and whatever you do, don't challenge the powers that be; and in return the system will let you roam freely within the allotted boundaries, grant you your civil liberties as long as it's convenient to do so, and even let you vote on issues of lesser significance like who can marry whom and how many bathrooms restaurants should provide.

He then points out that, in an age of ever-increasing automation and technological advancement, neither _the deal_ nor the system which created it can survive for long. He examines exactly why this is so, and then offers some insights about what will transpire as the situation develops, and the different ways we can respond to this dynamic environment.
