Thinning rice is a crucial step in the growing of rice grains. Over crowding is not good for any plant and once this happens it is possible for the rice to begin to turn yellowish-green like the ones we have here. Instead of maintaining it's green colors it begins to turn yellow.

This morning I'm on a quick assignment to thin out the portion of our planted rice. It is not usually a hard task but can be a little difficult if there is no rain, pulling up the rice grains is a bit hard as they are tightly stuck to the ground.

The best period to carry out a thinning task is when there is sufficient rainfall. It softens both the ground and the seedlings. It prevent the seedlings from breaking which can be utilized go plant another portion of our rice farm.

Thinning is an exercise that must be carried out for any of  planted rice field, this is because during the time of planting it is often difficult to measure or control the number of grains that goes into the soil hence we end up planting as much grains as not needed. When left together our rice crops wont produce well as it should.




Sometimes when we engage in thining the seedlings uprooted from one farm is  be taking to another field for transplanted this way we don't waste seedlings

I have to carry out this thining exercise at this time of even though we haven't had rain in a while and the ground is quite dry. The rice are fast growing. And the month of August is often the best time we utilize to control weed and any factor that will hinder the growth of the crop. Once that is done there is a progressive growth all through to the month of September which is often the fertilization and seed bearing period. Before the fertilization period we have to ensure that there is a continuous growth and no hindrances. 

The timing for growing this specie of rice is just 3-4months and everything must be in order and at the right time. Growth must happen at the right time so as not to interfere with seed production phase when it is time for such. 

If growth is delayed for any reason the seed production phase will be affected and so will the general yield of our rice.
