Tough times creates tough people they say, but regardless of this,  stretching humans beyond their elastic limits means that we are looking forward to seeing more hungry people in the streets or more people dying from lack of food( Hunger related deaths), because of the impact of fuel subsidy removal.   Let's hope that this doesn't be the case.
The effect of subsidy removal points at the highest form of inflation to be experienced in the coming days unless appropriate measures are taking to mitigate its effects/impacts. 

Crude oil has been the country's major resources but processing has to be done oversea and then imported into the country to be sold at subsidized rate to the people by the government. 
Having it cheap and partly paid for by the government enables other financial activities to be done more cheaply talking about transportation and movement of people and goods. 

Subsidy removal implies an increase in price for every other activity in the country. 
It is said that a huge amount of money is paid by the government to subsidize fuel which should have been channeled into other development of the country. 
The two choices hence are. 


* Subsidize fuel so that activities can be done affordably within the country while experiencing a slow and snail developmental progress 

* Remove fuel subsidy and allow the country to live in high inflation while using the subsidy funds for development projects in the country. 

A new administration has just come into power and barely 48hours in reign this most drastic decision has been taking. 
While some are of the opinion that it is a good move,  other are saying that the decision and manner in which it has been passed across is too harsh. 



# Here are some speculations that needs to be ironed out first. 

Is the government in power capable of handling the situation and is truly will truly work towards moving the country forward with the decisions and funds from subsidy removal 


* Speculations about the  president as one who was not credibly elected. 
The process surrounding the election process was totally unacceptable by the people  and has been hence termed the worst election  process ever. 
There was no transparency and a clear image emerged of how a particular party's mandate was stolen and giving to another. 

Well Democracy suffered a bread deal on the said 25th Feb 2023 in the country. 

When a leader is elected and the process is not credible enough what does that say of the integrity of such leader? And what kind of reign should we expect of such ruler.  

A major problem that has been persistent among the country is tribalism. 
Dividing the country into ethnic groups and seeking to keep power( presidential seat)  to a particular group of people has been a major problem of the country and each time the a leader is elected into power his performance is judge,  concluded, generalized and termed good or bad  based on the ethnic he has come from... 

To me I believe that anybody should be allowed go be in government regardless of their jurisdiction. 
And performance should be based on personality not generalizing a particular group to have performed better than the others. 


We have the Hausa, Igbo and Yoruba as the only 3powerful and recognized  tribes that have be recycling the presidential seat of power amongst themselves. 
Putting blames on a particular group based on the performance of their members on seat as the president of the country at that particular time. 
This is to say that leaders are choosing based on tribalism with hope that a particular tribe will perform better than the other and save the country's economy. 



* The current problem on ground is the fuel subsidy removal which may/may not be the best decision for the country. 

Making drastic  decisions in the shortest possible time  without looking into the measured that can be taking to mitigate the effect of such decisions shows an absolute lack of care and concern for the citizens. 




And in another light will the funds from subsidy removal be channeled and utilized properly towards all the promised development the citizens are looking forward to if they manage to survive the inflations that will come from subsidy removal? 


Nigerians politics is  familiar with politicians and  government that are known for  embezzlement of public funds. 
But here is a filthily wealthy leader as president what are we expecting next?. 
A positive or negative progress only time will tell.
