Al poco de licenciarme en biología, comencé a descubrir un mundo que apenas había estudiado de forma teórica, en libros y apuntes de la carrera, el reino fungi. Mi aficción se incrementó notablemente en cuanto comencé a descubrir la gran variedad de hongos y setas que podíamos encontrar y me empecé a interesar en esta temática hasta el punto de que me apuntaba a cada una de las jornadas y cursos a los que podía asistir.


>Shortly after graduating in biology, I began to discover a world that I had barely studied theoretically, in books and notes of the career, the fungi kingdom. My passion increased notably as soon as I began to discover the great variety of fungi and mushrooms that we could find and I began to be interested in this subject to the point that I signed up for each of the conferences and courses that I could attend.

He de reconocer que mi iniciación a la micología me mantuvo apasionada durante un tiempo y en estas charlas y salidas al campo, aprendía muchísimo, de grandes expertos y de gente, que como yo, queria seguir avanzando en el conocimiento de este grupo de seres vivos.





>I must admit that my initiation to mycology kept me passionate for a while and in these talks and field trips, I learned a lot, from great experts and people, like me, who wanted to continue advancing in the knowledge of this group of living beings.



No obstante, hubo un momento en que me saturé o comencé a ver cosas que no me parecían coherentes con la conservación. Saber identificar un tipo de hongo o seta, requiere un estudio en profundidad del mismo, y en muchos casos, es necesario la recolección del ejemplar al completo para poder analizarlo con detenimiento y fijarse en los detalles (algunos se identifican por su esporas o incluso se necesita un microscopio para estar seguros de que especie se trata).

>However, there was a moment when I became saturated or began to see things that did not seem consistent with conservation. Knowing how to identify a type of fungus or mushroom requires an in-depth study of it, and in many cases, it is necessary to collect the whole specimen in order to analyze it in detail (some are identified by their spores or even a microscope is needed to be sure of which species it is).

Es lógico, por tanto, que en una jornada micológica, además de las explicaciones iniciales se recolecten ciertos ejemplares para después poder usarlos como ejemplos y observarlos para su clasificación. No obstante, lamento ver, como muchas de las personas que terminan apuntándose a este tipo de eventos, parecen tener reprimidos sus instintos recolectores hasta que salen al campo como si no hubiera un mañana.

>It is logical, therefore, that in a mycological day, in addition to the initial explanations, certain specimens are collected so that later they can be used as examples and observed for classification. However, I regret to see how many of the people who end up signing up for this type of event seem to have repressed their collecting instincts until they go out into the field as if there were no tomorrow.




Mi aficción a las setas no parte de un sentido "micófago". Realmente valoro a estos seres por muchas razones que van más allá al típoco "¿se come?" razón principal, según parece, de las personas que se acercan a este mundo.

>My fondness for mushrooms does not stem from a "mycophagous" sense. I really value these beings for many reasons that go beyond the typical "do you eat them?" main reason, it seems, of the people who approach this world.


Este afán de recolectar setas sin sentido, en el que finalmente terminamos llenando la cesta de ejemplares de distintas especies mezcladas (algunas comestibles con otras tóxicas, como es el caso de la Amanita panterina junto con las macrolepiotas, algunas inmaduras, por cierto) puede incurrir en intoxicaciones graves.

>This eagerness to collect mushrooms without sense, in which we finally end up filling the basket with specimens of different species mixed (some edible with other toxic, as is the case of the Amanita panterina along with the macrolepiotas, some immature, by the way) can lead to serious intoxications.

Así mismo, cabe recordar que no se deben recolectar ejemplares inmaduros, ya que la identificación de la misma puede verse dificultada por que el hongo aún no manifiesta los caracteres típicos, como por ejemplo el tamaño o diámetro del sombrero, en el caso de las macrolepiotas o parasoles. Tampoco es necesario recoger más de uno o dos ejemplares si el motivo de su captura es simplemente identificarlos con tranquilidad.



>It should also be remembered that immature specimens should not be collected, since their identification may be difficult because the fungus does not yet show the typical characteristics, such as the size or diameter of the cap, in the case of macrolepiotes or parasols. It is not necessary to collect more than one or two specimens if the reason for their capture is simply to identify them calmly.

Soy partidaria de recoger tan solo lo que conocemos con certeza que vamos a consumir y en el caso de las que queramos saber más, sacrificar uno o dos ejemplares, ya que cabe recordar, que su funcion en el campo va más allá de nuestra propia utilidad personal.

>I am in favor of collecting only what we know with certainty that we are going to consume and in the case of those that we want to know more, sacrifice one or two specimens, since it is important to remember that their function in the field goes beyond our own personal utility.

Seamos coherentes y no salgamos a recolectar setas con bolsas, cubos o recipientes que no permitan que estos seres puedan soltar sus esporas en nuestro paseo por el campo y dejemos a la naturaleza seguir su curso. Seamos agradecidos por las cosas beneficiosas que nos ofrece la naturaleza y respetemos sus ciclos vitales, viviendo y "dejando vivir".

>Let us be coherent and let us not go out to collect mushrooms with bags, buckets or containers that do not allow these beings to release their spores in our walk through the countryside and let nature take its course. Let's be grateful for the beneficial things that nature offers us and let's respect its vital cycles, living and "letting live".

En estas últimas jornadas yo no cogí ninguna seta. Me limité a observar, aprender y fotografiar. El año ha sido suficientemente malo para ellas como para darles un pequeño respiro por mi parte. 


>In these last days I did not catch any mushrooms. I just observed, learned and photographed. The year has been bad enough for them to give them a little respite on my part.
