Upvote values and rewards are dependent on the prices of SBD and Steem with respect to USD. That accounts for that. At times you could have surprisingly higher rewards too: say, you were voted **$3.02 *(3 votes)***  and the next morning you see **$4.3 *(3 votes)***. Other times the reverse, as you mentioned, could be the case.
