[Blog #70] A case of a splitting headache & update
### Heeeyho Readers! Coming back with an update on my broken skinny leg.

**I remember laying in the surgery room** as nurses worked to remove a temporary cast from my leg. Someone turned the surgical lights on; white strobes flashed on my eyes. I felt anxious right away. The doctor was talking to his young Padawan. “When I began we didn’t have this technique. Hardware was hard to find,” he said, “So the only way to practice was on dead bodies of climbers in Switzerland.” Drills and saws and all sorts of scary-looking ‘tools’ were carefully placed on a table. Dear God, I was in to be butchered and guaranteed I’d hear the noises. This brunette young woman entered the room; she rushed to me.

“I’m your anesthesiologist,” she said, “how are you feeling?” She noticed I was scared to death. She began to ask a bunch of questions regarding my health before I could answer, for which I repeated with no, no, no. “How would you like it to be?” she finished. And I thought, ‘quick and painless.’

“I can’t stand hearing noises,” I said instead.

“Would you like to sleep?”

“Yes.”

The last thing I felt was a rush of warm liquid entering my vein. I logged off.

#
***

**I woke up feeling great**, kinda dizzy, in the recovery unity. I also noticed my leg had bandages on, in replacement to the uncomfortable cast. Felt awesome. My anklebone no longer hurt from pressing against a hard plaster.

**To cut the story short:** a few hours later—and after having a piece of pipe up my ding-dong—I began to feel energetic again. I wanted to walk, and so I did, with support from a pair of Canadian crutches. *Only if I knew.*

The first night started wonderfully with a little help from all mighty painkillers. In the other day, still in hospital, doc came in to dispatch me. On the way home, however, Thor hammered me for good. Holy shit! **The worst headache emerged up my neck and behind my eyes.** I felt as if a train had hit me head-on. Mom raced back home. I rushed to lay in bed. As mom called the doc, the headache simply disappeared almost completely. Great. **I had what is called a post-dural puncture headache—one of the symptoms after anesthesia.**

***

> Post dural puncture headache (PDPH), also known as post lumbar puncture (LP) headache, is a common complication of diagnostic LP. It also can occur following spinal anesthesia or, more commonly, inadvertent dural puncture during attempted epidural catheter placement.

***

**Symptoms lasted for twenty-two days of agony**, where, not only did I feel anxious for being stuck in bed, but I could not even stand to pee without having a rave bombing in my skull. I resorted to everything without much success. Lastly, I asked God for mercy. It worked.

*I’m glad to say I’m doing great now, after nearly six weeks of the accident. Bone is healing well, and I began to exercise in a pool. Doc says I’ll be new in two months. I hope so.*

If the accident served for anything positive, it was in accepting life as it is at the present moment. In understanding that tomorrow’s gonna be better. And if it isn’t? Whatever. One day it’s gonna be better: patience and perseverance. There are only three ways for our problems: We can run from them; we can face them; or we can seek help. Doc had said the headache would go away, and it did. It took longer than usual, but it did go away. Today I realize how dumb I was for feeling anxious and thinking I had AVC or any other crap—just a worthless extra stress I didn't need. **Said that I'd like to leave a message.**

## If you Hive fellas are having a hard time, what I can say is: Keep calm, seek help, and don’t give up! God bless.

Actually not, wine is my least favorite alcohol. But other than that, yeah, I have had all kinds of hangover and sometimes it takes me not just one but two days to recover :D But I am sure your experience was a whole different level. Happy for you it´s finally gone...
