Probably many of you already know what Wi-Fi is because many of you have often and many are already using Wi-Fi, but this time I will share to you about Wi-fi based on what I know.

Wi-Fi is a technology that utilizes electronic equipment to exchange data wirelessly (using radio waves) through a computer network, including high-speed Internet connections. The Wi-Fi Alliance defines Wi-Fi as "any wireless local area network (WLAN) product based on the 802.11 Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) standards." However, since most WLANs today are based on these standards, the term "Wi-Fi" is used in common English as a synonym of "WLAN".

A device that can use Wi-Fi (such as a personal computer, video game console, smart phone, tablet, or digital audio player) can connect to a network source such as the Internet via a wireless network access point. Such access points (or hotspots) have a range of about 20 meters (65 feet) in the room and more widely outdoors. Hotspot coverage can cover an area of ​​room with walls that block radio waves or a few square miles - this can be done by using multiple overlapping access points.

"Wi-Fi" is a trademark of the Wi-Fi Alliance and the brand name for products that use the IEEE 802.11 standard family. Only Wi-Fi products completing Wi-Fi Alliance certification testing trials may use the name and trademark "Wi-Fi CERTIFIED".

Wi-Fi has a fickle security history. His first encryption system, WEP, proved to be easily penetrated. Higher quality protocols, WPA and WPA2, are then added. However, an optional feature added in 2007 called Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) has a gap that allows an attacker to obtain a WPA or WPA2 router password remotely within a few hours. Some companies advise to turn off the WPS feature. The Wi-Fi Alliance has since updated its test plan and certification program to ensure all newly certified equipment is immune from severe PIN AP attacks.

The history of 802.11 technology began with the 1985 US Federal Communications Commission's decision to release a GSM band for unlicensed use. In 1991, the NCR Corporation with AT & T found an 802.11 predecessor devoted to the cashier system. The first wireless products are under the name WaveLAN.

A large number of patents by many companies use the 802.11 standard. In 1992 and 1996, the Australian CSIRO organization obtained a patent for a method that would later be used in Wi-Fi to remove signal interference. In April 2009, 14 technology companies agreed to pay $ 250 million to CSIRO for violating their patents. This encourages Wi-Fi to be cited as an Australian finding, although this has been the subject of a number of controversies. CSIRO won a $ 220 million lawsuit for a patent infringement of Wi-Fi in 2012 asking for global firms in the United States to pay CSDO licenses to $ 1 billion. 

In 1999, the Wi-Fi Alliance was formed as a trade association to hold Wi-Fi trademarks used by many products.
