Research Methodology (Lecture 16 ) Plagiarism [Part 2]

Hope you all are doing well and enjoying the bounties of life .Today i am gonna continue "Plagiarism" with you guys.

Use three strategies

Quoting

Paraphrasing

Summarizing

1. Quoting

 Use quotations when:

—You want to add the power of an author’s words to support your argument

—You want to disagree with an author’s argument

—You want to preserve special or elegant language

—You are comparing and contrasting specific points of vie Giving definitions etc.

Giving definitions etc.

Don’t string quotes together or put them back to back.

Paraphrasing :

Like quotations, paraphrased material must be followed with in-text documentation and cited on your Works-Cited page.

 Paraphrase when:

—You plan to use information on your document and wish to avoid plagiarizing

—You want to avoid overusing quotations

—You want to use your own voice to present information

Change both the vocabulary and the sentence structure to free yourself from the author’s voice

Paraphrased material looks very convincing in a research paper; it shows that the writer understands her sources well enough to express them in her own voice.

Summarizing :

Again, it is necessary to attribute summarized ideas to their original sources.

Summarize when:

—You want to establish background or offer an overview of a topic

—You want to describe knowledge (from several sources) about a topic

—You want to determine the main ideas of a single source

Should be comprehensive but concise.

For example, a 15-page article may be summarized in a paragraph or two.

The purpose of the summary/abstract is to give scholars a “preview” of the material covered in the article and let them decide whether they will take the time to read it.

Summarizing vs. Paraphrasing :

Unlike a summary, a paraphrase does not condense material; it includes both main points and supporting details.

Thus, your paraphrase will be about the same length as the original passage.

Therefore you would not paraphrase an entire 15 page article, but you could paraphrase an important sentence or paragraph.

Quotation Marks – If you need to use what someone else has written or write their exact words and put them in quotation marks.

 Paraphrase

Never use someone else's words and sentence structure – substituting synonyms would not do either

Write everything in your own words as you understand it

Go through the required reading material and then put it all away when you start writing.

Summarize – Main idea of several authors in your own words

Cite right :

Avoiding Plagiarism :

Check for Plagiarism:

—Plagiarism Software

—Online Tools

Turn it in – Originality report :

Hope you like my article and if you do please

@salmanwains ·
Lol.
harassing me? seriously?
I just asked you to prove your identity. I didn't said that @munazza account is your too.
But, I said that you are not a real person here on steemit. You took picture from Google, It's been 126 days you joined Steemit but you didn't proved your identity yet by sharing your own photo with a paper in hand with current date mentioned.
1) It's against the rules to use someones else photos.
2) It's against the rules to hide your identity.
I can see that you are using multiple accounts. let me search about those & then send your query too @steemcleaners. They will downvote you & ask you the same questions.

@naturicia ·
1. You should keep distance from using someone else photos because of possible copyright issues. But steemcleaners will only deal with pictures which are not your own and published under an artistic tag.
2. Nobody needs to proof his identity here on Steemit. It is her own decision if she wants to publish who she really is.
3. steemcleaners will not randomly downvote people because they use multiple accounts. The accounts have to do Copy&Paste, Plagiarism, Identity Theft, Spam, and so on. If you have just multiple accounts it is nothing to worry about.

@sanach, do not let you tell what you have to do. If you are unsure about what steemcleaners deals with or other questions you can join [steemcleaner's Discord Server](https://discord.gg/GXSdeP5) and receive help.
