**San Francisco - Within the scope of "Breakthrough Starshot", for the first time scientists and space engineers have successfully tested a miniature probe in the low Earth orbit, which will be able to reach the nearest solar system Alpha Centauri, driven by a light sail, within just 20 years.**

The "Sprites" called prototype of the later called "StarChip" is the smallest ever designed space probe, consisting of only one single micro chip of 3.5 x 3.5 centimeters size and weight of not more than 4 grams. However, besides solar cells, computer circuits and sensors the probe also contains a radio unit capable of sending data back to Earth.

In the current test phase, the totally 6 stamps big "Sprites" is still fixated on the outside of the satellite "Venta" and "Max Valier", already showing that the nano probe is working flawlessly, by sending back first data to the Earth. If the functionality of the probe works well in free flight too, depends on the solution of some remaining problems regarding the carrier satellite.

Mainly financed by the multi-billionaire Juri Milner and supported by the astrophysicist Stephen Hawking, the feasibility of the by laser light driven miniature probe should be proven, within the scope of the 100 million US-Dollars vested Starshot-Project of the Breakthrough Initiative, which (accelerated to 20 percent light speed) within 20 years after launch will send first images and other telemetry data of the Alpha-Centauri system to Earth, where astronomers have found a planet of the size of our Earth lying within life friendly zone.
