My name is Mohammad Nazri Bin Zulkafli and I am currently a final year medical student in the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). In Malaysia, people who studied in the government associated university (public university) would have a much lower education fee due to the fact that most of the cost was subsidised by the government. For example, the cost for a medical student who studying in UKM can be as high as RM180,000 (roughly around 43,000 USD) for a period of 5 years but they only need to pay 10% from the total&nbsp;cost, say, RM18,000 (4,300 USD for the whole 5 years medical programme) as the rest would be supported by the government. Even though I'm currently studying in UKM, I'm not actually from this university.&nbsp;</p><p>In 2014, I was accepted by Allianze University College of Medical Sciences (AUCMS) to continue my study in the field of medicine. AUCMS is not a public university and the cost incurred for the whole 5 years study period were supposed to be RM375,000 (around 92,000 USD). I got a loan from one of the institutions called MARA and proceeded with the university; after all, with my previous financial status (and current), I have limited choice and can't afford to be picky with where I end up with. All seems well until the end of the same year (2014) when AUCMS went bankrupt. Fortunately for me, the medical program which I participated in is a twinning program (UKM-AUCMS) so as a result, UKM took us in. In 2016, I was kinda distracted and have been experiencing low mood for the whole year due to family and financial problems and as a consequence, I have to extend my study by another year; previously I was diagnosed with major depressive disorder (MDD) in 2014 right after AUCMS went bankrupt. Now, my year of study becomes 6 instead of 5 and the 1 extra year was supposed to be covered by MARA but in view of the falling of Malaysian economy, the chances for me to get a full loan is low. If MARA decides to give me half of the actual sum for a year study cost (a year would cost RM67,500 so in this case, I implied if MARA were to support RM37 500 (around 9000 USD) instead, then I would have to find that huge amount of sum (another RM37 500) in a probably short period of time).</p><p>Some of my cousins were willing to lend me a total of RM 20,000 (around 4900 USD) so now I would have to earn the other RM17,500 (around 4100 USD). I know in this platform, we were not supposed to earn money for personal gain, which is why I have decided to create a Steemit daily health reminder blog called @dhere (like the word adhere). The information which will be written on this page will not only circulate around the Steemit platform but also other social media (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram) to promote health-related topic, education and the platform itself, Steemit at the same time. I admit, it is a lot of work for a final year medical student (to blog and commit to my own study at the same time) but I have to be willing to do anything to pay for my own education so that I could hold a degree.
