In the last 30 years the population of India has grown from 873 millions to 1.40 Billion as of now. Which means an increase of 38% in 30 years and similarly the world population from 1990 which was at 5.3 billion has gone up to 7.9 billion which is 34% increase. There are two ways to look at it.

Some people think that the world has more than enough place for the population,  because at large we are too much concentrated in major cities of the world which makes it look over populated. And the other way to look at it is, do we want to use up all the available land area that we have by spreading ourselves out. If we start doing that means more and more destruction of nature and depleting out natural resources. To an extent we are already doing this by expanding our city limits, destroying our nature, uprooting trees and increasing our carbon footprint. 

Yes, I do believe that the World is over populated. The number of deaths are lesser than number of births, but that does not mean we find out ways and means to kill people. That is not the solution. The World population in 1800 was around 1 Billion and in 1900 it was close to 2 Billions, which was an increase by 1 Billion, and now it is close to 8 Billion which is 4 times the increase from the previous century. And what must have triggered this.  

The mortality rate has gone down considerably because of the highly advanced medical infrastructure, which has increased the average life span of us humans, and if we keep doing this probably there will be a time when we will defeat death and go against the law of nature. I believe in one thing that if we go against the flow of nature we will create imbalance.

Now for people who think that there is more than enough land for everyone on this planet, so my concern here is, do we want to whole of our planet to be industrialized  and kill all of our nature and wildlife. We have already been doing that, spreading out more and more and destroying our resources. So that's not what I will like to think of as a solution. 

Birth Control is definitely one measure that has to be taken, but not with authority. I would never want something like China's One Child Policy to be implemented in any way. But Birth control with education and protected sex is what has to be looked at. This is one of the most important action that everyone should think of. 

The other is about the science, while it is good that we have advanced so much that we can defeat death, but one has to understand that when the time comes to leave, one should leave peacefully and not be in greed to live forever and ever. There are so many people who cling on to ventilators for a long long period of time. Ofcourse that ration will be insignificant in the population numbers, but when one has lived a good long life then when time comes one should not go in for all the procedures to keep living more and more. I may sound a bit hard on this. I have told my family, if ever I get into a situation where I need to be just carry on life saving support systems then please do not give me that. I would like to accept my natural death and pass off. 

The quality of life has gone down drastically but with all these support systems the longevity of life has increased. If we work on the quality of life, we will have a good healthy longevity and when the right time will come, we will die peacefully.

With the growing number of population, requirement of more resources will be there and with all of that quality of life will keep going down, because we will get into the pursuit of more and fast. Just for e.g. our forefathers always had grains, specially wheat, but nowadays people complain of Gluten problem with wheat, so what has changed. In the olden times when the wheat was grown the plant was allowed to grow in it's full capacity and with that the gluten content in the plant was much lesser, but now we need mass production and the harvest is done even before the crop grows fully which leaves the crop with high amount of gluten in it, and hence now Wheat has become an issue for the gut because of high gluten in it. 

The another one aspect is a little controversial, but it again is one of the problem. The Religious beliefs, some religions believe that Children are a gift of God, which I do not deny, but then just keep having this gift every alternate year is a crazy thing, because they also think that using a condom or any other means of protected sex 
 are against the law of nature. This is the education that needs to go out and people need to get out of these blind religious belief systems.

To summarize, yes Population is a matter of concern. The solutions to it is Birth control through means of good level of sex education and protected sex.
