Visiting an Omani Exhibition
In one of the hotels, there was a display of this Omani heritage cultural items. When I looked at it, I saw that most of the items were similar to the Indian culture. It's difficult to say who must have adapted whose but in general I feel that more or less across the world if you go back in time and look at the cultures, they were more or less the same.

It's interesting to see these things from the past and understand how we have evolved over a period of time. May be 20 years down the line what we are using now will be all kept in museum. It is already happening that things we used in childhood now has a tag of antic on it, like the old round dial black phones, or the typewriters, even in that case the radios we had. All of these are things of past and when you look back at them you fascinate and wonder how fast things technology evolved.

When I was a kid, we used to visit one of my aunt's house in another city and at her place there was a lot of antic stuff, she has those wooden big boxes for storage, all the furniture in the house was of teak wood or rose wood, but the thing is we never knew value of those things then. We used to feel they look so old and she should remove it and replace it with the new fancy things. Today if someone will ask me, I will say, I would like to have those old things in my house. Thankfully in my home now also we still do have some of these old furniture made of pure teak wood, and it is so sturdy, that I can see the difference in the new things I have got and these old ones. The new ones will hardly last for 8 to 10 years, but these old ones that I have in my home are since almost 80 years, and absolutely they look as good as new now also.

As I mentioned most of these things I find resemblance with the Indian culture. This type of seating arrangement has also been in India in the olden times, specially with the accountants in small home businesses.

In the olden times also having a gun was a very common thing, unlike now that it is prohibited. My grandfather also had one in 60s and he used it for hunting. He passed away very early but we had all his hunting stories from our granny. and it was delightful to hear the experiences and his adventures. Such a free life that must have been.

These are very common in the traditional islamic culture, though now these big ones are not used but the smaller ones are still. The tea pots that we call in the new age :-)

These small pots are used in doing dhoop, I do not exactly know the English word of it, but it is where you keep a coal and frankincense and burn it and spread the smoke in the house, basically used to clear home energy. I use it very often in my house for space clearing and also because I love frankincense aroma.

These old wooden boxes have a charm of their own. At my aunt's place we had many of these but I never valued any of them in those days, but today I can pay any price to have one at home.
![image.png](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmaEWcPxm2ywvtWmmgUknA62B3D4LRei1cA6KRx71YhcAR/image.png)

The slippers that monks in today's time also wear it. I wonder how do they manage to walk, I have tried using them but I never get a grip to walk and my foot keeps going side ways, must be really a task, but when you look at them it looks so normal.
![image.png](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmSsNdhfwnXBRocT9kyqcSN5fVwXGY9TZHjL9owdgdtTBg/image.png)

We have replaced our drinking water storage methods, but for a very long time in my home, we too used these earthen pots. It's like only in the last 15 years that these have been replaced by the Aqua guard systems. I still keep some bottles of these at home and fill them up with drinking water and then consume water from it. Even in extreme summers water stored in them will be cool. You do not need a refrigerator to cool water when you have these, and it is healthy for sure.

These things look fancy, but in many Indian homes they are still used. Brass and copper utensils were very common and you can still find them in a lot of Indian homes. But I was surprised to see them in the Oman culture also.

This exhibition took me back into my childhood times when we almost had all of these in our home, and today they look so antic, truly we can say, Time flies.

And imagine what would happen in just 15 - 20 years....The good thing is that, people are now actually trying to go back - Mutton prepared in earthen pots is now a very favorite dish at my place. And if its cooked on charcoal, its more tasty.

Now a days I am clearly seeing people getting divided into 2 different paths, one which is all connected to technology and robotic behavior and the other who is getting connected back to roots. Ofcourse there is a little of both in everyone, but majorly we will see this. Hopefully more people should get connected back to the roots, it will be good for the soceity.
I don't have any earthen pots for cooking here in Muscat, but back home in India I do have, I guess it's high time I should get one here also.
