# <center>Bruce Willis' second participation with director M. Night Shyamalan to tell the story of a man in search of his true purpose in life... "Unbreakable"</center>
<br>

Hi Hivers, we arrive to the final week of this third edition of **League of Movies** made by @wiseagent, the theme of this week is about **"Mind Blowing"**, this week we talk about those movies that we must see several times to understand them or the ones that have surprising endings, to know more about how to participate I leave you the link with the rules to follow: [League of Movies](https://hive.blog/hive-166847/@wiseagent/league-of-movies-hive-writing-contest-third-edition-or-week-04-mind-blowing).

<br>

In 1999 I lived the fame of the film **"The Sixth Sense"**, I think all the people I knew at that time were talking about that film and its future premiere in theaters, everyone was talking that it would be "the best horror film in history" and everywhere I saw the image of the young _**Haley Joel Osment**_ saying the famous phrase **"I see dead people "**, I can say that I was not as excited as many since I just wanted to see the film and have my own opinion, but just before seeing this film, I was told about the ending that had been leaked in a national program in my country, this completely ruined my experience to see for the first time a film by _**M. Night Shyamalan**_, but immediately I had another chance with this director and that's why I decided to do the opposite of what happened to me with "The Sixth Sense", I stayed away from anyone who made spoilers and at the time of its premiere I went to see one of the stories that became one of my favorites and that I am always willing to see and to this day there is always something that surprises me.

<center>[Unbreakable (2000) Trailer](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fNeCB2ALNoA)</center>
<br>

**"Unbreakable"** is an excellent film, for me is one of the best drama and history of heroes that are not based directly on these famous comic book characters, although it is a film about comics, is something contradictory or confusing what I just wrote, but if we see the films based on many heroes at that time and those we see every year for just twelve years ago, we will see as in this film of _**M. Night Shyamalan**_ is totally different from **"X-MEN "** that was released in the same year, that's why for me the way to tell this "origins" movie is very well directed, written and acted, there was no need to attract the public willing to see a summer movie using big action scenes and the use of CGI, but to create a story based on comics, with people with super powers, but at the same time having very real and everyday problems.

<center>[source](https://www.cinemablend.com/news/2465437/the-11-biggest-things-wrong-with-glass)</center>
<br>

The performances of both _**Bruce Willis**_ and _**Samuel L.Jackson**_, is very good, although the last one I liked more his interpretation of this character that always was affected by knowing which was his purpose of life, this is a great character, **"Elijah Price"**, always looking for an answer of why I had to be born and live with the condition of suffering Type I osteogenesis imperfecta, a disease where he doesn't generate the necessary protein for his bones to be resistant and despite the support and incentive that his mother gives him to face the world regardless of his disease, Elijah is stuck looking for where to fit in the world, which is his importance in this story, all this because his only escape is the world of comics that in the end ends up being the food for his quest to know who he really is and if there is someone like him or his opposite, Now with the character of **"David Dunn"** I could say that it is the opposite but it is not like that, this character lives without knowing which is his truth and if the decision he has taken when he was young was the right one, that affects his family life to the level that he has lost all desire to continue having, this character is very far from what we can have as an image of a hero. The difference between these two characters is that the purpose of life one knows or believes to know what it is and only seeks confirmation, the other does not know if he should seek a purpose because he believes he has lost it long ago, this story of friendship and support is one of the best things that this film has, both do what I consider their best work as actors.
<br>

<center>[source](https://wallpapersafari.com/w/ikUe2a)</center>
<br>

The direction of _**Shyamalan**_ is the best, the different takes, the calm and slow of the dialogues, it seems like you are in our hands a comic and we see it in detail, I think this helps the viewer to commit much more to the story knowing that each revelation will not lead to something better, For me this vision that this director had in creating each scene puts this film in one of the best films based on the world of comics, I always thought about what _**Robert Rodriguez**_ and company did with **"Sin City"** and _**Zack Snyder**_ with **"300"**, which was the best thing I had seen in comic books films, but the subtlety of _**Shyamalan**_, also stands out in this slow but very good film.
<br>

<center>[source](https://www.radiopasillo.net/2013/12/12/unbreakable/)</center>
<br>

Now I think it's time to talk about how this film made my mind explode, it's all thanks to the story that _**Shyamalan**_ wrote in a great way, this director, writer and actor, has always excelled in having a great way to hide the visible, I have always believed that in many of his stories everything we see has a purpose, can be a word, an object or even a character, Everything has relevance and everything is important, I learned this precisely with this film, which despite the slow, I always liked how two people come together to answer the questions of why they are that way and that the world of comics is the basis for answering them was what fascinated me much more, as I said before, this writer in his projects that gave him fame, was because I knew how to hide revelations that were always there and that by focusing on other things we lose the perspective of what we should really see, that's why when we have that moment of victory and happiness of one of these characters to find his purpose and the other only confirms it and that's where my reaction is almost the same as the one of the character of "David Dunn", I couldn't believe it, I remember I even stood up from my seat and put my hands on my head, I just couldn't believe it, it was always there and we never saw it, the naivety, happiness, celebration of a victory, all of that is tarnished for David, while Elijah confirms what his role is in his life and that brings him just happiness, celebration and a name that will always be remembered.

<center>[source](https://mastermixmovies.wordpress.com/2017/04/02/strength-and-weakness/)</center>
<br>
20 years have passed since the release of this film and I'm still surprised by its ending and even though this director had to go through a critical path in his career, it's precisely returning to his origins that has somehow made him regain that lost respect and thanks to several of his films I stay away from spoilers and even do reviews where I never try to do them. This film will not be the most difficult to understand, but if one very well written with a sensational story and extraordinary ending, it is not necessary to have a great battle to leave the viewer speechless, only with a great story and great actors to tell it is necessary to take you to that place and surprise you with only images and words, this feeling of surprise I lived again four years ago and last year, because this film of 2000 takes a new meaning after seeing the last work of this director, so this story 20 years later continues to blow up my mind.

@rnunez09 ·
Even though M. Night Shyamalan's career has been a rollercoaster, this is one of my favorite movies of his golden era. I'm glad you weren't spoiled of this wonderful ending.

 Superhero movies have become such a wide and beloved genre, but back in the day there were very few superhero movies and even fewer that dared to do something so different and special. I think part of what I like about it, it's how simple it is, never using CGI and actually being a superhero movie that seemed realistic.

 Wonderful choice!

Exactly, it is very realistic despite showing a person that he cannot be broken physically, but his mind is fragmented into what he really wants.

I really like this movie, thank you for your comment

@serialfiller ·
It's quiet something this movie.
I think is undervalued but the Sixth Sense was better and Split more complicated. I loved this movie. I remember exactly the moment I buy the ticket at theatre in that summer.
Congrats for the review.

Sixth sense is much better, the image direction and the joint performance between Willis and Haley Joel Osmentes great and that without talking about the end of the film, but as I said in the post if I had not ruined the end for sure was talking about that film and not Unbreakable.

I would also like to talk about Split, but this is the first one, so I decided that it's better to tell something from the beginning, thank you very much for your comment.

I still think ***Sixth Sense*** is **Shyamalan**'s best movie. However, in terms of complexity, I think the one you chose most interesting.

Good luck in the contest, @nameless16.
