This can be seen many times in the scriptures from the old testament to the new testament. It shows how serious one is about their petitions and their need for the Lord to intervene. Aside this fasting also does a lot of good to the body, it is natural way to detoxify your system and allow it to recuperate from its routine. For those with extreme body mass they fast to reduce weight without even realizing it, the only difference been that the prayer aspect is taken out. And so when things get tough, when the is the need for the Lord to intervene, when you have been waiting on the Lord and need him to speak do resort to fasting and prayers and see how it works magic.
