In December 2000 I got married and by September 2001 my wife gave me the news of her pregnancy. At the beginning everything was nerves, we cried with joy and emotion, my wife was crying for about a week, she was already showing symptoms of anxiety.

Financially, we were not going through a good time and due to an oversight I did not include my wife in an insurance policy, there began the problems, having to face the reproaches of my spouse and rightly so. From that moment on we started to investigate the cost of a birth and by talking to some friends we were able to schedule it in a public hospital.

We did not know how to deal at that moment with the expenses to come, so fights and arguments arose.

Generally speaking, I was trying to be calm while the anguish was very palpable in her, who began to present normal discomforts during pregnancy that I was not used to seeing frequently: excessive sensitivity and change in moods, fatigue, headaches, hormonal changes, nausea, vomiting and strange cravings such as eating peanut butter with strawberries, chocolate and mango or chocolate ice cream at three o'clock in the morning.

Given his behavior and with the idea that he would always feel good, I brought him gifts and desserts which he almost never liked and therefore on several occasions and given his rejection of me, I had to sleep on the couch and once I even did it on a bench in a public square.

We made huge budget cuts to choose the furniture for the baby's room, we visited countless stores buying clothes for newborns and stocking up on disposable diapers, but you know we didn't know the sex of the baby.

At 18 weeks pregnant, the obstetrician suggested to my wife to perform a test called amniocentesis, where amniotic fluid is analyzed to detect any alteration in the baby and at the same time allows us to know the sex of the baby. Once the test was performed, it was revealed that the baby's sex was male.

Two weeks passed and in the appointment with the obstetrician she reviewed the tests that in these cases should not fail in 99%. She told us that from her experience, from the shape of the belly and its size, the baby was female. The specialist proceeded to do an ultrasound where the baby showed without any problem its female sex.

My wife's nervousness and her non-stop crying made us decide to go to the clinic where she had the amniocentesis test, when I complained, those responsible for the test determined that the error was the laboratory's, there they exchanged tests, and another father, whose spouse had the same test the same day as my wife, had already made the same claim that I was making, it is incredible that this happens by carelessness.

My wife was very upset and was screaming all over the hallway, I asked her to calm down and she glared at me.

Once at home she apologized to me and we discussed the fact at home, given her advanced stage of gestation it was very dangerous to have the test done again.

The day of delivery arrived and our car would not start, so we had to take public transportation to the hospital, fortunately my mother-in-law was there to help us.

In the operating room my wife had to wait for about six hours because there were seven young women waiting in the delivery room. She underwent a cesarean section. She entered the room at eight o'clock in the morning and left approximately at half past four in the afternoon, but before that I had to see a little girl who was crying a lot and my instinct made me get closer, that was my daughter.

These nine months should have passed faster, I think that psychologically I was in a state of shock and it was really a traumatic life experience that I had to go through and I take it as a learning experience.

I thank God that later we assumed our role as parents, we balanced forces for the benefit of our daughter and imparted family values to a new member of the family, so I am very proud of my wife giving her fair value and perhaps today I understand her concern during pregnancy because I believe that in the world there is no greater love than that of a mother, which begins the moment a woman learns of her pregnancy. Needless to say that my greatest achievement in this world is to be a father.

Now that time has passed I wish everything was slower, I want to have health to be with my wife and my daughter as long as possible because they are my most precious treasures, in my opinion the good thing about time is that it makes you wiser, it helps us to live life in periods that can be challenging, calm or tense.

The truth is that we can not escape it, so enjoy it with quality of life.
