Hello friends, welcome to my blog, last weekend I had the opportunity to see The Man from the North, a movie based on Nordic legends and fables. According to historians, until now one of the most faithful films that portrays us what life was like for these peoples who lived between Denmark, Norway and Finland. This film is directed by Roberts Eggers, who became known with the masterful film "The Witch", this is his third proposal as director and this time he enters the world of the Viking peoples, but from a different approach to other proposals that they are just historical epics of battles and kings. Here we find a more intimate approach, a deeper look at the beliefs, folklore and traditions that these peoples had.

>>Hola amigos, bienvenidos a mi blog, el fin de semana pasado tuve la oportunidad de ver El Hombre del Norte, una película que se basa en leyendas y fabulas nórdicas. Según los historiadores hasta ahora una de las películas más fiel que nos retrata como era la vida de estos pueblos que vivieron entre Dinamarca, Noruega y Finlandia. Esta cinta esta dirigida por Roberts Eggers, quien se dio a conocer con la magistral cinta “La Bruja”, este es su tercera propuesta como director y esta vez se adentra al mundo de los pueblos Vikingos, pero desde un enfoque diferente a otras propuestas que solo son épicas históricas de batallas y reyes. Acá nos encontramos con un enfoque más íntimo, una mirada más profunda a las creencias, folklore y tradiciones que estos pueblos tenían.

Alongside Roberts Eggers, this film features Anya Taylor-Joy, Ralph Ineson, Ethan Hawke, Nicole Kidman, Claes Bang, William Defoe, Björk, and one of his best performances Alexander Skarsgard as Prince Amleth. The similarity with one of Shakespeare's best known classics "Hamlet, Prince of Denmark", is because the writer was inspired by the same Nordic legend that gave rise to this story. The script by Eggers and the Icelandic poet Sjón gives us a vision of what life was like for these people in the 10th century, where barbarism and land conquests was their way of life, their beliefs in their pagan gods, Odin, Valkyries and going to Valhalla was the prize of every warrior.

The story is about a prince Amleth, whose father is killed. King Aurocandill (Ethan), is ambushed and killed by his half-brother Fjölnir, as he leaves a ritual for Amleth to begin his path to becoming king. His uncle, as well as his father's murder, pursues him to kill him, but Amleth escapes swearing that he will avenge his father's death, murder his uncle and rescue his mother. Over the years Amleth becomes a skilled and strong warrior, an incident and the visions that a seer will show him will make him return to the path to go after his oaths of revenge. Here Amleth will go through a series of situations that will lead him not only to find the means to take revenge, but also love, but also the disappointment and betrayal of what he believed was the truth of him.


>>La historia trata de un príncipe Amleth, cuyo padre es asesinado. El rey Aurocandill (Ethan), es emboscado y muerto a manos de su medio hermano Fjölnir, al salir de un ritual para que Amleth, comience su camino para convertirse en rey.  Su tío al igual que asesino a su padre, lo persigue para matarlo, pero Amleth escapa jurando que vengara la muerte de su padre, asesinará a su tío y rescatara a su madre. Con el pasar de los años Amleth se convierte en un guerrero hábil y fuerte, un incidente y las visiones que le mostrara una vidente le harán retomar el camino para ir tras sus juramentos de venganza. Acá Amleth pasara por una serie de situaciones que lo llevaran a no solo encontrar el medio para vengarse, sino el amor, pero también la desilusión y traición de aquello por lo que creía era su verdad.

I really loved the movie, even though it has had controversial reviews, many expect to see an action movie and even though it has some action scenes and fights, that's not what the film is looking for, it goes much further, it's a movie that portrays the consequences of the decisions we make, the beliefs that move our world and the paths we decide to choose driven by our beliefs. A dark band in a world where survival depended on the strongest, conquer them and that was what gave you status. Where man's decisions were often subject to the visions of his sorcerers who spoke for the gods. A world where the magic and the crudeness of life intersect that is what El Hombre del Norte shows us.

>>Realmente la película me encanto, a pesar que ha tenido criticas controvertidas, muchos esperan ver una película de acción y a pesar de que tiene algunas escenas de acción y luchas, ese no es lo que la cinta busca, va mucho más allá, es una película que nos retrata las consecuencias de las decisiones que tomamos, las creencias que mueven nuestro mundo y los caminos que decidimos elegir llevados por nuestras creencias. Una cinta oscura en un mundo donde la sobrevivencia dependía del más fuerte, las conquista y eso era lo que te daba estatus. Donde las decisiones del hombre estaban muchas veces supeditadas a las visiones de sus brujos que hablaban por los dioses. Un mundo donde lo mágico y lo crudo de la vida se entrecruzan eso nos muestra El Hombre del Norte.

If I have to say something negative about this film, it is that it may seem somewhat slow and that perhaps for some people the rituals it shows do not think that it does not correspond, for example the braces on the Valkyrie's teeth in the scene in which it appears, which caused in the network controversy and then historians showed that, if these artifacts were used at that time, but for reasons of aesthetics and status within the tribes, among other details. For me, it is so far the most faithful film to the Viking culture and peoples and if you have the opportunity to see it, do not miss it.


>>Si debo decir algo negativo de esta película es que puede parecer algo lenta y que quizás para algunas personas los rituales que muestra no piensan que no corresponde, como ejemplo los brackets en los dientes de la Valkiria en la escena en que aparece, que causo en la red controversia y luego historiadores demostraron que, si se usaron en ese tiempo esos artefactos, pero por razones de estética y estatus dentro de las tribus, entre otros detalles. Para mi es hasta ahora es la cinta más fiel a la cultura y pueblos Vikingos y si tienes oportunidad de verla no te la pierdas.
