Del mismo modo que en el fútbol y otros deportes, se han dejado de hacer ciertas cosas por considerase anticuadas, el ajedrez no escapa de esto, ya que en los últimos años ha sido rara la vez que se juega una defensa Caro-khan, debido a su gran resultado de tablas en este siglo XXI, aunque se  considera una de las aperturas más sólidas de que disponen las negras, y ha sido empleada por muchos de los campeones mundiales de este deporte.

El principio de esta defensa es tratar de apoyar el fuerte golpe d5, que ataca el centro blanco. Suele derivar en estructuras muy similares a la Defensa francesa, pero, además, hoy les contaré una debilidad notable en la apertura que muchos aficionados deben saber. Aunque no lo he practicado con regularidad porque durante mi formación académica en el liceo no se jugaba en los pasillo ni había eventos relacionados hacia este juego reconozco que es lo más parecido a una batalla entre dos ejércitos que luchan por conquistarse y demostrar al otro con técnica, destreza y habilidad quien es el mejor.
