Hydrangeas are the flowering plants I'm having trouble deterring the pesky slugs to leave alone. Hydrangeas thrive in either acidic or alkaline soil and have a unique feature of changing the color of their flowers to pink or blue/violet based on the level of acidity/alkalinity. I fondly recall watching my dad add rusty nails to the soil to change the pH level of the ground around the plants.🌸🌿💠

After having ***zero*** problems with the slimy buttheads for fifteen years, the past two years the slugs are absolutely testing my gardening skills! Due to pets, I cannot leave a bit of beer in cans in the area of the yard where the plants grow or use pesticides. Instead I combine used coffee grounds as well as crushed egg shells with a mixture of mulch, pet moss and potting soil. We'll see how things go this year!🤞
