Se cree que los odontólogos somos fanáticos de la amoxicilina, pero ciertamente no es porque queramos sino porque la literatura expresa que es un antibiótico idóneo para infecciones odontogénicas, en esta publicación hablaremos de la Amoxicilina y su principal elección en odontología, en un próximo post hablaremos de su agregado el ácido clavulonico, la amoxicilina es un betalactamicos específicamente del grupo de las aminopenicilinas, que posee un amplio espectro teniendo gran eficacia en infecciones odontogénicas gram +, esto es lo que lo hace antibiótico de primera elección en infecciones odontogénicas.

Cabe destacar que existen diversas enzimas como lo son las betalactamasas, que presentan gran afinidad por la estructura química de la amoxicilina por lo que pueden ocasionar cierta disminución en su función farmacológica, y eso puede ser conocido como una resistencia a la amoxicilina por lo que aveces se debe recurrir al ácido clavulonico.

En cuanto la presentación comercial de la amoxicilina podemos encontrarla en tabletas y suspensión, para ser tomada por vía oral cada 8 horas mayormente generalmente tres veces al día  por lo que se debe ingerir alimento, la amoxicilina viene de 500mg, el tratamiento debe cumplirse al pie de la letra para permitir su buena acción.

Normalmente la amoxicilina puede generar pequeños daños secundarios como, nauseas, vomitos, también diarrea y pequeños dolores de cabeza en caso de tener algún efecto tóxico o negativo para tu salud debes omitir por completo este antibiótico, si eres alérgico a la penicilina también lo serás a la amoxicilina.

La amoxicilina esta indicado odontologicamente cuando se presenta infecciones odontogénicas, también pequeños abscesos o trayectos fistulosos, así  como también infecciones generadas por caries o enfermedades periodontales, en niños es mucho mas eficaz, también debe usarse en esas personas que se encuentren más propensas a sufrir infecciones cardíacas como la endocarditis infecciosa.

Normalmente esta se indicada de 500mg cada ocho horas por siete días para tratar infección antes de la extracción dental, cabe destacar que también es utilizada en infecciones de garganta, piel, oídos entre otras más. En Venezuela la resistencia a la amoxicilina es muy común ya que es el antibiótico más económico y de fácil acceso que utilizamos para todo por lo que se debe recurrir al ácido clavulonico.

Indeed amoxicillin finds a very good use in a wide variety of infections including odontegenic infections. 

Antibiotics resistance is a very big problem and caused mainly by antibiotics abuse. Therfore we must continue to educate the people on the importance of taking antibiotics strictly on prescription to avoid development of resistance to these potent antibiotics.

Hace algunos meses se me partió cepillándome una muela (cordal) y un diente (delantero), a causa de varias fisuras originadas por una quimioterápia recibida en 2006. Como consecuencia de ese tratamiento, mis dientes son frágiles. Siempre que he ido al dentista, luego de la revisión me recetan amoxicilina; y es cierto, a casi todos los que conozco que acuden al odontólogo siempre que presentan una irregularidad de salud en sus dientes, le recetan tal medicamente. Debe ser el único o el más importantes de los que existen en el mercado.
Ese ácido clavulonico ¿qué es en realidad? Deberías hacer una publicación al respecto para que yo o cualquiera no tenga que acudir a buscarlo por internet y quedar a medias. Tu sabrías como explicarlo. ¡Lo haces muy bien!
