CRYPTO IS MORE THAN YOU THINK...

Given the recent development in Nigeria as regards cryptocurrency,I have heard many people share their hot takes on the issue and sadly, their very myopic view of the crypto industry which is indeed appalling!. There is a prevailing mindset amongst many that cryptocurrency offers no utility asides from easy profit. Also, many see crypto as a tool to facilitate terrorism and fraudulent activities. These are very bold and erroneous claims which I hope to refute in this post by sharing my crypto story. I have done this a couple of times over the last three years to throw some light on the positive impact of cryptocurrency in our modern society.

I got into crypto in the first quarter of 2017 through an acquaintance. Before my involvement in crypto, I had heard stories of this supposed internet magic money which I was indifferent about. I was in my third year in uni without a penny to my name so the idea of investing in digital crypto wasn’t within my means. So I was surprised when I was told that I needed no capital. It seemed too good to be true but I gave it a try because I had nothing to lose and I was in desperate need of money.

I got into crypto via a platform called steemit (now hive) which is a content-based platform. All I had to do to earn this magical internet money was to create content which is something I have been doing since 2014 freely on WordPress. Three years down the line and I have made more money than I would be working as an insurer. This is an oversimplification of my story because it was(is) a difficult journal. I am much per se, however, I can meet my daily obligation which is something Nigeria never offered.

The Nigerian system is one that is against the have-nots. It is a perpetual cycle of doom that has trapped many young and talented people. For the first time in my life, I understood what it means not to be entrapped in a system that is bent on making one fail. I became part of a network of people who have spurred me to be my best as a content creator and an aspiring web developer.

Unlike other crypto enthusiasts, my journal doesn’t revolve around charts and speculation. I am in the business of sharing ideas, I am in the social business. This is what I am good at and for some reason the government wants to take that from me. If I didn’t discover cryptocurrency I would be in a very bad place financially and emotionally. This is the greatest opportunity given to me and I think I have utilized it to the best of my abilities thankfully!.

Asides from earning, I have grown in knowledge. I know so many things about the world many take for granted. Being in a decentralized and having firsthand experience on how ordinary individuals can galvanize each other into building a network that is strong and valuable is amazing.

In conclusion, there is more to cryptocurrency than many are willing to explore and that’s because the industry is still in its infancy. Blockchain technology has the potential of changing our world, making it more transparent and effective without any central control. This is the world envision, this is the world I want.

This is something that is common in developing countries due to the greed, selfishness and corruption. I see a lot of similarities with my own. If I haven't cussed out a parliament member or the government in general for a day, it's probably because I haven't watched the news that day. xD

But despite all of that, the best course of action is to ignore it, not let it influence your mindset and reach whatever goal you want to reach, despite the obstacles.
