I TRUST CRYPTO MORE THAN I DO THE BANK.

I came across this post on [TikTok](https://www.tiktok.com/@alexisanddean/video/7213427733026639147) the other day from a supposed expert. It is one of the many attempts to discredit crypto as novel, unregulated, unreliable, and volatile. He did so by exhausting the obvious and downplaying the merit of this technology and how important it is to our future.

I am not an expert on crypto or anything per se. I am just a regular guy who is privy to have explored the crypto space for about four years (and can also think for himself). Thankfully my experience hasn't been marred by scams and speculation. I came into the space with little expectation and that allowed me to learn and appreciate cryptocurrency and blockchain technology.

One of the things cryptocurrency/blockchain promises and does well is ***borderless transfer/store of value***. I know for degens this isn't quite exciting but for people like me who live in third world countries where there are numerous restrictions on fiat transactions across borders, it is a huge deal to be able to transfer and receive value across the world (almost instantly with little or no fees--depending on the blockchain you are using).

The other important thing crypto/blockchain does effectively is the ***delocalisation of value***. What this means is that your money isn't tight to a country or central bank. Wherever you find yourself in the world you can transact. Things like this might seem insignificant but when you consider events like the Ukraine war, you begin to see the importance of cryptocurrency.

I stumbled upon a tweet by a Ukrainian man who escaped the Ukrainian war, stating how grateful he was for having most of his value held in bitcoin, which allowed him to quickly start his life again in a new country. The same cannot be said about Ukrainians who had money or other financial assets in the bank/home. Most of that value is gone.

"But crypto is volatile"

Agreed. This is probably the strongest argument against crypto as a store of value or means of exchange. The obvious solution to this problem was/is stablecoins, but that has been under immense attack/pressure these past few months. However, I dare say, that crypto's volatile and fiat stability presents a unique opportunity–for both to co-exist.

Crypto and fiat can co-exist (they actually do). I use both although I trust one (crypto) more than I do the other (fiat). So the argument against fiat or crypto can be counterintuitive most times because both have their merits and demerits. It all depends on where you value. For instance, for those who are keen on security and regulation fiat is your best bet. However, if you seek freedom and flexibility crypto should do it for you.

I choose crypto. I sleep pretty knowing my money is safe on the (hive) blockchain. Keeping my stablecoin (HBD) on hive and earning a decent 20% APR helps hedge against inflation which is ravishing the naira currently.

Also, there is the perk of being part of a global community. I have a network of friends and acquaintances across the globe who have proven to be invaluable. I can't say the same about my citizenship as a Nigerian (which has set most Nigerians up for discrimination and negative stereotypes)

**CONCLUSION**

There is more to crypto than speculation, and it takes those who have truly explored and used this technology to understand this simple fact.

Also, there are no perfect systems as long as humans are involved. This does not discredit the merit of a thing. Crypto isn't perfect but it does what it is meant to do well.

An amazing thing to me is that the Custodia bank was rejected in its bid to get full accreditation, for lack of better terms, as a bank. Custodia is to be a crypto bank in the U.S. that is 100% 1:1 backed. That is to say, everything in crypto has the equivalent in USD held in reserves. Fractional reserve banks aren't even close to that. What is it, 10% held unreseves or so? And yet that's ok. Makes no sense.

They will never approve anything they cannot fully control. It is no news that crypto posses a threat to the establishment and that is amplified by the little knowledge they have about this space which is making them kill innovation that will benefit the state (America) if and when it becomes a big player in this industry, ahead of other super powers.

I think the ability for both of them to coexist is overlooked by many. They complement each other in a number of ways. However, many people feel that crypto will swallow fiat into oblivion. I don't think that will happen anytime soon despite fiat losing its perceived dominance as a currency.

RE: RE: I TRUST CRYPTO MORE THAN I DO THE BANK.
Certain not. There is a lot built around fiat (including crypto) for a totally takeover to be possible (even in our lifetime). For now they both can coexist whilst we build around crypto as well. This is why web 3 is crucial to the growth of the crypto space
