For every one of us, it's a near certainty that we are more likely to believe things we see on the internet when they confirm our political beliefs and cultural suspicions.

There are memes floating around that try to make some variant of the claim that mass-murders in this country are largely alt-right white men vs. minorities.   It isn't true.

There's also the claim that mass shootings are disproportionately white men or alt-right men.   That isn't true.  (Though the claim that mass-shooters are wildly disproportionately male is obviously true)

There's also the claim that interracial violence in this country is disproportionately white men (or alt-right white men) attacking minorities.   That isn't true.

The thing that _is_ true is that your ordinary mass-murdering whackos aren't implicitly supported by political parties and certain media institutions.   White Nationalists and Christian Nationalists are.

It's absolutely true there are black Americans committing atrocities because of racial animus.   

_But there are no political parties cozying up to them_

It's true that there are Muslim Americans committing atrocities for political purposes... but there are no political parties or major media outlets cozying up to them.

Mass murderers (including those that are racially or religiously biased) come in every color and creed.

The difference is that the people inspiring black, latino, and Muslim  murderers aren't being courted by major media organizations and fêted by the mainstream national figures of major political parties.  The people inspiring Christian Nationalists to commit atrocities are.

.. The critical difference is in how they are inspired and supported by significant societal institutions (and they people within them)
