<div class="text-justify">   A veces me pongo a pensar como habrá sido la vida del hombre en las épocas antiguas. En como enfrentaba algunas situaciones y vicisitudes de la cotidianidad. Una de ellas es como hacían cuando sufrían e un terrible dolor de muelas. Quizás amarraban un hilo en la cola de un dinosaurio para lograr la extracción de la pieza de la discordia.

Estoy seguro que los constructores de esas grandes pirámides también se dedicaron a pensar como curar un dolor de muelas. La arqueología forense ha encontrado evidencias contundentes que los antiguos egipcios también se ocuparon de atener esta grave afección. Ellos usaron  las primeras pasta de dientes, también hay evidencia de la extracción de piezas bucales así como la elaboración de prótesis con dientes de marfil de elefantes.

Con el transcurrir de los siglos estas afecciones dentales eran atendidas por los brujos y curanderos del pueblo. Luego fueron apareciendo los primeros odontólogos. Famoso es el caso del célebre pistolero del oeste Norte Americano John Henry "Doc" Holliday me imagino sus pacientes teniendo más miedo a las pistolas que a los instrumentos odontológicos.

La llegada de la modernidad, la electricidad y los procedimientos odontológicos mejoró notablemente la salud bucal de la humanidad. Pero con esta modernidad vino un nuevo factor de terror y miedo: El Taladro del miedo.

Me atrevería asegurar sin tener un estudio estadística que no existe en estos momentos ninguna persona en el mundo que no haya escuchado ese sonido aterrador que produce el mencionado taladro. Con solo estar en la sala de espera y escuchar su aterrador sonido adultos, jóvenes y niños comenzamos a sentir las palpitaciones de nuestro acelerado corazón y el sonido nos tele transporta a encuentros del pasado cuando la mecha del taladro se abre paso en la superficie de nuestra pieza bucal.

La tecnología de hoy ha fabricado taladros más silenciosos, de mayor velocidad para disminuir el tiempo de trabajo mechas de materiales más abrasivos así como las técnicas y destrezas de los odontólogos han mejorado notablemente buscando disminuir el dolor físico causado en el paciente.

Sin embargo nuestro mayor dolor ocurre en nuestra mente, el recordar experiencias de nuestra niñez o la experiencia con odontólogos de “manos pesadas” nos hace sucumbir ante el Talador del Miedo. Pero que nos hace asistir a la consulta y resistir al ruido del taladro pues nada menos que el miedo a un dolor de muelas.

Para evitarse un dolor mayor,  un dolor que  por obra y gracia solo aparece de noche y los fines de semana, le recomiendo que visite su odontólogo por lo menos dos veces al año.
