Back in the 80's when I was a kid I'm pretty sure we could sell meth on TV and get away with it.  The desire to lose weight kind of started in a massive sense during these times and I think it isn't a coincidence that our dietary way of life in America and around the world started to take a turn for the worse in that same time period.  

There were a ton of diet products that were just meant to make you not hungry so that you could starve yourself with a smile on your face.

The secret was to find a reasonably fit spokesperson who was pretty, but no too pretty.  They wanted her to appear like and "everyday person" whose look was accomplishable by mere mortals.  She would then go on to spout some nonsense about how much weight she lost just by taking a Dexatrim capsule every day.  The part that they don't tell you is that this system only works if you also don't eat which obviously is going to work, we have dozens of real-life situations that have shown how effective starvation is in accomplishing weight loss during horrific periods of human cruelty during war.  

Dexatrim and other products like it were made illegal in the 90's or somewhere around that time not because it was encouraging people to starve themselves but because it was essentially speed and of course people were abusing it and taking far more than the 1 tablet per day.   They were losing weight but they also were destroying their internal organs.  Dexatrim didn't give a damn, the product was selling.

These days you can't sell crack in a bottle to people but that doesn't stop people from manufacturing products that claim to encourage weight loss and of course they are completely full of shit in their claims.

Look at all of those claims they make there:  Detox, immune system improvement, and weight loss in a gummy bear.  I mean, who wouldn't want that?  The added bonus is that you aren't using a bunch of "big pharma" chemicals to accomplish this either.  I mean, look at how much smaller that guy's waist is in the picture!  

Once again they used a model that was fit, but not too fit so it seems accomplishable by the average Joe.  Unfortunately, this fad, which is being promoted by celebrities and also influencers on multiple platforms, is completely useless and there are no studies that aren't funded by the people that manufacture the gummies that suggest anything other that that. 

These days people don't bother trying to refute the supplement industries claims because the folks that get duped into this sort of garbage are just going to by whatever is suggested to them without even bothering to see if there is any legitimacy to the claims.... Also, the supplement industry is absolutely HUGE and they would easily squash anyone who was a credible threat to their billions per year industry.

There are many different varieties of these gummies but they all make health claims that are completely bogus and in 2014 the Federal Trade Commission sued a green coffee bean company (which is one of the "speed" ingredients in a lot of these gummies) for making false claims about green coffee beans and weight loss since it isn't the beans themselves that causes weight loss but rather the "jacked" boost that a person feels when taking highly concentrated doses of caffeine all at once.   

I hope you aren't the type of person that takes any of the claims of these products seriously and even moreso I hope you aren't duped into using a bogus product because a celebrity or influencer tells you it is a good idea.  You surely realize they are being paid to say these things and likely don't even use the product in question.   

It is a shame that the fitness world is filled with so many half-truths and downright lies but basically if anyone is telling you that anything other than surgery is going to make you lose weight without diet and exercise they are definitely lying to you.
