Recovery is taking its time today.

It's the eighteenth day of this running session; the thirteenth run. I'm at 72% completion. I expect to get 30 runs completed in 45 - 60 days. I'm aiming for 45, but even 60 would come out to running every other day, and for a non-running, run-hater like me, that's an accomplishment.

I've told myself I'm doing this as an experiment to see if I can really "run off" some excess weight. I'm at 177.2 today. I weighed in after this morning's run/workout so it's probably mostly H2O weight that I dropped. Day zero was 180.4 so we're down 3.2 lbs. That's more typical than the claims made on diet commercials, that tell you the fantastic results participants achieved, "aren't typical." The pounds I shed amount to <2% of my body weight.

However, I wasn't over weight when I began - so why am I doing it? Are there reasons other than curiosity? Probably discipline. Despite hearing from people that I'm a beast, I don't always believe it, so I have to test myself. I give myself an assignment and then follow it through. But I need other elements to keep me going. If it were just about running - I certainly wouldn't do it. This is about running to lose weight, to achieve and maintain a 3:1 muscle mass to body fat ratio, to keep a blog and to make video clips every day. It's like a job. I've got to get the job done! There are goals involved. Guess I'm goal oriented.

So much for all that.

Today was a good day to run. We opted out of clubs and bars and drinking last night - the video will tell you why. I was able to get up fairly early, do my AM exercises - stretching, twisting, yoga-type stuff, squats and then go out and run 2 miles in 28 minutes and then do some pull ups, pushups and bench dips at the playground (1 set of each.. I'm not THAT much of a beast), walk home and start recovering. (I've been recovering for the past two hours!) Today's activity took a lot out of me. But I have no regrets.

Nice way to start the week. I've got 60 days left until I leave here. Oh, funny note - had to stop forward progress (ran in place) during the run to chat with a guy from the YMCA, he was biking. I speak to this guy in the locker room from time to time, don't even know his name, yet he knew I was leaving. The Community YMCA, is very much community. I guess people care, or are at least curious. I have been there almost 20 years, first as a member, then a trainer and now, an instructor.
