Bajai Boot Camp 6: Running Session XXIV

(10-22-16)

I got about two hour's sleep... but I still got up at 0400 to stretch and bend and do all the exercises that I do to get ready for work.

Here's a trick (I should call it a practice) I learned from listening to the late Dr. Wayne Dyer - at least I think it was him. It has to do with self-talk/self hypnosis. As an example he mentioned how people worry about how many hours sleep they WON'T get, which subsequently has them checking the clock even ten minutes and calculating how much time they have left before they have to get up. They tell themselves they won't get enough sleep and/or, that they will be dead in the morning.

He suggested we do the opposite. So - and this has been going on for the last three years at least - when I go to bed, I tell myself I will get exactly as much sleep as I need and I will wake up strong. This works very well on days that I have to get up and do something. I have yet to master this technique when it comes to waking up early when I don't have anything vital to do.

Waking at 0400 especially this time of year... or in the tropics, when the sun doesn't show itself until 06 - 0700, makes for a long day. On my days off I usually get out of bed between 07 - 0800, and get my run in just after morning rush hour (less car exhaust to breathe.)

Okay. Today was day 24 and it was a no-run (2d break). I did however walk, (which is an every day task), and visited my brother Tim (http://timmcfarlane.com/) at his art studio as part of the Philadelphia Open Studio Tour. It became a "framly" reunion of sorts. But that's off topic.

A Paleo meal at one of my favorite diners, where I had to eventually charm our server (I got an uncomfortable vibe from her at first) and then out for some late night dancing where the dj played the kind of disco that killed disco. And another night coming in sober (nope, no drinking until I finish this series) after 0200.

Stay Tuned for Part XXV
