How to Fund Your Event Virally with Steemit
# Introduction
Today there are many websites that allow people to get their projects and events funded such as [GoFundMe](https://www.gofundme.com/), [Indiegogo](https://www.indiegogo.com), [Kickstarter](https://www.kickstarter.com/) to name a few, but it would be really nice to get your event funded through Steemit. So I am going to go through the steps of creating a post on Steemit to get your event funded.

# 1. Make sure you are a verified user

*The Twitter verified symbol*

You want to make sure you are verified because no one would want to put money into an event created by someone they don't even know exists.

# 2. Description of your event
You want people to have a reason to fund your event, make sure you describe in detail what your event is and why they would want to fund it. You could even create a video describing your event. Make sure you always link to your event's website. Here is an example of a good event description:

*HackUMBC is a 24 hour event to be held on October 1st in which around 400 of the most talented and passionate students on the east coast come together in teams of up to 4 to build software and hardware projects and present them to judges, sponsors, and the community. During these 24 hours students are exposed to great opportunities to network with sponsors, participate in mini competitions, and learn more about various types of technology. View more information regarding the event at https://hackumbc.org*

# 3. Include your event's logo and graphics
Don't forget to include your event's logo and any other graphics. The more graphics and material you have the higher chance that people will look at your post and give you money to get your event funded.

# 4. Never set your fundraising goal too high
The last thing you want is people to think that you will never be able to realistically raise the amount of money that you set out for. If you know that your event only needs $5,000 don't tell people that you need to raise $10,000. It is often better to set a low goal and be surprised when your event gets overfunded than to set a high goal and be underfunded.

# 5. Make sure companies know about your sponsorship tiers
Posting on Steemit, like other social networks, is a good opportunity to reach out to companies and developers to ask in regards to sponsorship. Always make sure you include a [link](https://hackumbc.org/sponsors.pdf) or an image specifying exactly what sponsors will get for their money.

# 8. Give the community a reason to fund you
Write about the positive things that will come out of funding your event. For example, "By funding my event, we will include Steemit's name on our event's website and have their brands on the shirts. In addition to this we will also spread awareness in regards to Steemit and cryptocurrency." If you are part of a charitable cause and want to get your event funded you could write about how funding your event will benefit the cause.

# 6. Be nice, and polite
You are asking for money, the last thing you want is for people to be insulted. Make sure you always thank the community. I remember hearing that most people who are successful are also super nice and great listeners. Whenever you are getting advice from the community regarding funding or organizing your event make sure you always express your gratitude and give them the right credit where applicable.

# 7. Never give up.
If you are finding that people are not being supportive of your event/ cause just keep on posting about it. Eventually people will understand how much this event means to you and you will be able to get your message across. Just keep on posting. Thomas Edison didn't make the lightbulb on his first try, he had to try a thousand times before he was able to come up with the right combination. If your first post doesn't strike gold don't worry about it, the Steemit community rewards consistent and quality efforts. Make sure that you are also writing quality posts about your event, the last thing the community wants is to be spammed with the same video and links in 10 word long posts. Like the user @xtester says it's about "quality over quantity."

# 8. After the event is over always make sure to connect back with the community and sponsors
The Steemit community is very supportive of your good endeavors, especially if you are making a positive contribution to the community. Make sure after your event has ended you write a post detailing how it went overall in terms of logistics, planning, and what could have gone better etc. Hosting a large event is a great way to network with sponsors further, and create strong connections that might be of use in future events that you may be hosting.

# 9. Always express your gratitude
# Thank you for making this event a reality! I would like to thank the Steemit community for supporting my cause!

# 10. Don't forget to link to resources regarding your event
