I will tell you some bad knowledges I had the very first day I got admitted into a boarding school. That day I will never forget in a hurry😁 so guys sit down and let me do the talking while you read along with me.
I was born in a cross river state in Nigeria but my parents are from Akwa-Ibom state, because of work he had to stay away from his hometown, so when we all were born. I mean me and my siblings, we couldn't speak our mother tongue and we were laughed at because of that. My parents decided to send me to my hometown to continue my secondary school education.
I gladly accept it. I have always dreamt of visiting my hometown even for once, but for one reason or the other, my dad never wanted any of his children to go visit his home. He later changed his mind maybe he saw how important it is for us to know how to speak our mother tongue.
I was sent to Akwa-Ibom state my hometown, to continue with my education. He decided that I will be in the boarding school saying I shouldn't stay with any of his relatives' reasons all known to him.
He took me, we went to the ministry of education and I was admitted to the prestigious State Government Technical College. The school I heard is "good outside but bad inside" I never understood until I started schooling there. So I resumed on Monday the 13 August 2010 with my new navy blue pants and white well-ironed shirt.
I came in with my luggage, I was instructed by the security guard to keep my bag in the security house and after school, I can come to fetch it to my dormitory, I did as he said. I went in with only my books and locally made locker and stool. I was admitted into "SS 2 E".
The school is truly what they said it is, the compound is big with different blocks of building for both senior and junior students. A very big football field and hostels for only boys, girls were not allowed to board may be because the state government wants it that way or they was no dormitory building built for them yet.
But jokes apart It was as if I was in another new world, I entered my class and received my first English lectures it was really interesting, the moment the teacher left the class some senior students came in we all stood up and greeted them.
We were asked not to sit down while standing I observed my classmates trying to hide stuff under their shoes, some inside their school pants. But I never knew why the hell they were doing it, not until one of the senior students walked up to me and put his hands directly into the left side pocket of my trousers and brought out the only money my dad gave me for extra feeding money or in case I needed something urgently.
I tried struggling with him he pushed me away and asked in a harsh tone are you a new student? I said yes he asked if I had paid my landing fee, I was confused because I remembered my dad settled everything with the school authorities before going. Now, what fee is he talking about I asked myself?
The boy saw that I was confused asked my classmates to explain to me what he meant by landing fee and he walked out. At that moment I don't know if crying and rowling on the floor could solve it or going to report the matter to the school authorities. They now started telling me how I messed up saying I should have put the money away, and how was I to know that he was here for my money? I asked myself because I couldn't even utter a word I was shocked and confused.
A boy said he will take me to the school counselor for me to lay my complaint, on reaching the office of the school counselor he was even also blaming me for not trying to hide the money after seeing him in my class. As I knew that he was of no use I left the office and during break time where students were allowed out of their classes to have snacks.
I looked for him and found him amid some pretty schoolgirls of the lower grade they were all floundering around him, he even used my money to buy snacks for the girls in my present I felt like giving him a big blow but I couldn't look at his structure alone will scare you away plus he is with my damn money for me to get it was to be peaceful.
I walked the whole school with him all to no avail, the worst was when he took me to where his other notorious friends were, I received the greatest slap of the century before I realized what was happening they collected my school bag opened and carried the new white sneakers I bought for games and asked me to run out from there before they count to three, hey! I am now in more big trouble.
And that was how my money and sneakers were gone just on my first day. Inside the dormitory was another hell, we passed through series of maltreatment from senior students. They will wake us up at midnight just to flog us on our naked buttocks, going to report them to school authorities was just putting yourself into more trouble so we never tried it, we just endure the suffering with hopes of getting out one day.
