Exploring Melbourne - Southbank Architecture

As you know I’m an architecture fan and always admire the angles of a building and the different perspectives that you can get from it. Interestingly I’m not that interested in high rise buildings, for some reason they just don’t capture my interest all that much. It could be the link between the big companies that own them and the commercialisation that they often inspire in our society. Sometimes there are evil intentions and it seeps through in to the big cities, this could make for an interesting series though.

Walking through Melbourne over the weekend a few buildings on the South Bank area really captured my attention and made me want to take pictures of them. The sharp angles were partly why I wanted to photograph these buildings, the other element was the circular shadow design on the side of the building that combined with the vertical and horizontal lines. Really powerful. Through the structure of the bridge below also made for some interesting photographs and the primary colours too on one of the buildings which seems to be used quite often around the city of Melbourne. Maybe a trend in modern architecture and taken from the Bauhaus 	style.

I might post a few of these for the architecture competition on Wednesday, but I thought I would preview a few here for you to take a look at. Maybe they will inspire you with your own photography and make you look for a particular series when you’re out and about photographing in the city. It’s funny how these were just throw away photos but made for a nice series. I suppose photography can be like that sometimes. Enjoy.
