First off you should always carry a knife. That is your last line of defense. Getting extremely good very durable and make sure that you carry that knife extremely Sharp. Have it very available on your beltline.  Go underneath and into the rib cage from the belly area or be careful and slide between the ribs. You're targeting is anywhere there's flesh to cut like the neck muscles stomach and up from the stomach into the torso. Trust me if it ever gets that bad my words will ring in your ears.

Next up carry a steel collapsible baton from a good maker like asp. 
This is our medium range defense and a more potent weapon than our next candidate. Definitely Target joints and bones with the striking tip. 

Carrying a walking stick with you is very smart idea. A good walking stick gives you some clearance area to threaten. Getting a walking stick and having a steel Spike on the bottom covered up by a rubber sheath helps to turn this into a longer range weapon. As well as very potent one.


Last in your line is carrying a gun. A really good gun that is extremely reliable and extra magazines as well as personal training to be able to clear malfunctions and keep this operational as one of the most potent weapons systems. Preferably 9 mm with hollow points and nothing smaller than that and please get very good rounds.

And now I will talk to you about bear spray. Get the wrong kind and with wrong environmental conditions and you will be helpless and more of a victim. There have been people who have had to use it and ended up completely vulnerable to attacks. On top of it they have safety systems and you need to fiddle with things just might as well use it as a short-range bludgeon. And an extremely poor one at that. 

Your personal safety for you and your canine is up the utmost importance and I would highly suggest carrying at least three of the above. Short range you can choose between a knife and baton. I would choose the knife personally. 

The walking stick is very smart and the handgun doesn't take up much space on your belt next to that knife. 

And extra special hint carry an extremely Sharp pocket knife as well. Having extra tools on hand during an encounter is very important.

Try to find a place to put your back against or terrain that forces your predator to attack from the front.

Coyotes are especially deadly when you turn to run and they start attacking your Achilles tendon preventing you from standing walking running and making it a very easy target on the ground to dispatch and turn into lunch.

Personally I don't yell wave or waste any of my energy. I simply breathe turn pivot and attack when the opportunity presents itself.

I do a lot of hiking in the woods and the American West has quite a bit of predators. Grizzly country in Idaho definitely is very serious threat however coyotes are so more common and are on the rise in ways that the human beings and our civilization barely comprehend. 

In local city parks actually young women joggers have been known to be pulled down and eaten by a pack. They have little to no fear of humans especially when in a group.

I should know I ended up nearly getting ripped apart when I was a teenager as a result of wondering into the wrong area of the suburban remains of the local Forest. 

If you can only carry one take that gun... My life and my dog's life means way more than a pack of coyotes does. Or for that matter any predator.

Yes she should is been along you guys take such work,She is very happy when we go for a long walk early in the day since it doesn’t get too hot.some animals are like human ooh she is happy and i believe you are happy too,so been happy is something nature.
