Başkent Ankara'nın İlçesi Nallıhan toprakları tarihte Hitit Medeniyetinin, Frigyalıların, Perslerin, Büyük İskender'in fethiyle Makedonların, Roma İmparatorluğu'nun ve Büyük Bizans İmparatorluğu'nun hakimiyetinde kalmış, ayrıca iki kere de Arapların istilasına maruz kalmıştır. 1071 Malazgirt Meydan Savaşı'ndan sonra buraya Türkler yerleşmiş, Haçlı Seferleriyle tekrar Bizanslıların eline geçse de, sonrasında sırasıyla Danişmentlerin ve Anadolu Selçuklu Devletinin idaresine girmiştir. Anadolu Selçuklu Devleti yıkılınca önce Candaroğulları'nın sonrasında ise Osmanlı'nın topraklarına dahil olmuştur. Nallıhan'a 1599 senesinde Vezir Nasuh Paşa bir han yaptırmış ve Nallıhan adı da bu handan gelmiştir. Aslında Nallıhan'ın gelişmesi, Nasuh Ahmet Paşa'nın başvezir olmadan önce burada konaklayıp, çok beğenince buraya cami, han ve hamam yaptırmasıyla olmuştur, zira bu eserler nüfusun artmasını sağlamıştır. Halk Kahramanı Köroğlu buradaki handa bir gece konaklamış ve giderken bahçede atının nalı düşmüş ve bu uğurlu nal hanın kapısına asılmış böylece Nallıhan adı çıkmıştır. Nallıhan'da XX. Yüzyıl'da iki büyük yangın olmuştur.
