Yozgat'ın adı eskiden Bozok'tu (ki bence keşke öyle kalsaymış), Bozok olmasının sebebi ise Bozok koluna mensup Türkmenlerin bu bölgeye akınıydı. 1800'lü senelerde Bozok adıyla beraber Yozgat denmeye başladı. Bir söylentiye göre, Yozgat Saray Köyü gökyüzüne doğru kat kat yükseliyordu, başlangıçta bu kat kat yükselişe Yüz Kat dense de zaman içinde Yozgat'a dönüştü. <img src="https://i.postimg.cc/d3t8bKMZ/yozgat.png" /><br/> Diğer söylentiye göre ise, Aşiret Reisi Ömer Cabbar Ağa çopur yüzlüydü, bu sebeple ona Çopur ya da Çapar Koca diyorlardı. Birgün sürüsünü otlatırken Hızır (A.S.) ondan süt isteyince, Ömer Cabbar Ağa da güleryüzlü bir şekilde ikram etmiş ve Hızır (A.S.) çok memnun olmuş ve ona "yozuna yoz katılsın, bulunduğun yerin adı Yozkat olsun" demiş, Yozkat zaman içinde Yozgat'a dönüşmüş.
