The long-awaited clash between France and Germany happened and it was an okay match for me. It didn't get the much-hyped spark I expected but there is no doubt it was a wonderful match. Germany were more daring while France sat back to hit Germany on the break. They did it to great effect and I love how both teams posed serious threats to each other going forward even though both teams' shot on target wasn't an encouraging stat.
The only goal of the game came in the 20th minute when Paul Lebile Pogba brilliantly found Hernandez at the edge of the box. He tried to find Mbappe who was on the prowl in case Matt Hummels' clearance failed but in an effort to clear, Matt Hummels bundled the ball into his net to register the 3rd own goal of the tournament.
Germany tried to provide a quick response too and Gnabry did so well to bring the ball down in the 38th minute and Gundogan was on hand to pounce on it but his effort went wide.
Rabiot should have scored his first goal for France in the 52nd minute when he was played through. Griezmann was already on the side to get the pass but he went for the goal himself and he struck the upright instead. Two minutes after, Gnabry had another effort miss the target and it dropped on the bar. He had another effort shortly after but Hugo Lloris was quicker off his line to restrict Gnabry from getting it over him.
Germany played up to this point in the 56th minute with no shot on target. Mbappe thought he had gotten the second goal for his side in the 66th minute but he was ruled for offside. It was a tight margin. Mbappe had his penalty shout turned down after going down under the challenge from Hummels in the 77th minute.
Another goal came for France in the 85th minute after lovely eyesight from Pogba found Mbappe who unselfishly passed the ball to Benzema who only tapped it into the empty net but Mbappe was judged to have been offside in the build-up to the goal.
The game ended 1-0 and that was enough for France to get the 3 points against Germany in the so-called 'Group of death.'

**Hungary v Portugal.**

Hungary made life difficult for the current European champions. Hungary played with character, held on resolutely and caused a few problems for Portugal. The game looked destined for a draw but tired legs soon played its part and Portugal dug deep to get a result that didn't justify the entirety of the match. That didn't mean Portugal didn't deserve it, they did because they controlled most aspect of the game but the scoreline was flattery and of course, a big blow for the Hungarian goalkeeper who was on his best on the night.
The first goal of the game came in the 84th minute when Raphael Guerreiro's effort deflected into the back of the net. 3 minutes after, Portugal got the first penalty of the tournament and Ronaldo stepped up to score and also make history along the way. He got his second and Portugal's third goal of the day when lovely pass exchanges positioned him right inside the box after beating the offside, he went beyond the reach of the goalkeeper and slotted it home to make it, 3-0.
With his two goals, Ronaldo became the record scorer at European Championship. He is also the first player to feature at 5 finals while also becoming the top scorer in Euros history with 11 goals. Ronaldo is also the oldest scorer for Portugal at a major tournament at the age of 36 years and 130 days breaking Pepe's record at the World Cup in 2018 when he was 35 years and 124 days. He is also the older player to score at least 2 goals in European Championship breaking Schevchenko's record when he was 35 years old and 256 days.
The history maker is just 3 goals behind Ali Daei in the all-time FIFA International record. Ronaldo now has 106 goals in 176 appearances for Portugal.
