Bolivia is a beautiful country, which due to its location is full of wonderful, and for us, the inhabitants of Europe, extremely exotic landscapes. The real pearl among the tourist attractions of Bolivia is Salar de Uyuni, which probably everyone who is interested in the planet Earth and its peculiarities, but next to it there is another, no less interesting, completely unpopular tourist attraction.
A train graveyard in the village of Uyuni. This is a collection of a dozen or so locomotives that I heard about while still a student. When I was a member of the Railway Research Club, one of my tasks was to run a Facebook profile and share various railway curiosities there. I remember that one of the most popular entries was the one about the picturesque train cemetery in Bolivia. Then, being in the third year of studies, it would never have occurred to me that I would ever go to the other side of the world and see this amazing place.
What a big surprise was when, while preparing for the trip, it turned out that the cemetery is directly adjacent to Salar de Uyuni and it will not be so difficult to go there and see something that I have always dreamed of.

Unfortunately, photos from the Internet are photos from the Internet, and reality is sometimes ruthless and brutally verifies the facts. After reaching the city of Uyuni, which is the base for exploring the area, in the first steps we went to the tourist office to treat ourselves to a three-day tour of the Bolivian altiplano, impossible to visit without our own roadster. In the tourist office, we learned that it is wonderful that thanks to the trip offered by our office, we will see this, this, that and that, and we will pay as much or as much depending on whether our driver knows the language or not.
When it was time for the trip, the first place we saw was the train cemetery. To get to it, you need to go about three kilometers outside the city and I must admit that it was one of the worst three kilometers in my life. I have never seen so much rubbish lying on the streets in my life. The worst thing is that the desert winds meticulously suck all the lighter rubbish somewhere deep in the desert. Okay, 3 kilometers takes about 5 minutes and it will be better ... there will be no rubbish ... and where is the button right. As if we are already outside the city, we are already in the desert and the rubbish blown out here is much scattered so it is not so eye-catching, besides, the familiar sight of a dozen or so completely rusty steam locomotives caught the eye, but this view was something else obscuring him. It was obscured by dozens of 4x4s and hundreds of tourists standing on, under, in, to the side, literally everywhere around the locomotives. I never expected that an excess of tourists could spoil the whole impression of watching rusty locomotives and make it practically impossible to take any photos. Until now, I wonder why all these travel agencies decide to organize trips to this place for one hour together. It would be enough to blur this whole horde of tourists for a little longer time and it would be quiet. Well, it's probably easier and cheaper.

Gdy byłem członkiem Koła Naukowego Dróg Kolejowych do jednych z moich zadań należało prowadzenie profilu na facebooku i udostępnianie tam przeróżnych kolejowych ciekawostek.
