I have always been eager to learn about pregnancy, I watch some pregnant women still bounce even while they are heavy while others just feel so sick and dull, I know it is absolutely based on different existing body types, but asides from reading about it, I now have a close first-hand experience with a pregnant woman and based on what she tells me, I will be sharing the process with my friends, and I am so excited about this.

It started with the fact that my best friend was supposed to see her period last two weeks, but she didn't and that got us a little worried, she was also feeling so weak, tired, and excessively dehydrated, I asked her to go for a pregnancy test but she was in denial and she refused to get one, but eventually I was able to force her to run a home test three days ago which turned out positive. We are excited about it, and we are gearing up for the journey ahead, I only wish it was a time when the economy was favorable, regardless we are about to become mothers and that is great news.

She complained about spotting and we consulted an expert who told us about spotting amongst pregnant women, from what I have learned, I can share with you as well. potting and bleeding during pregnancy from the vagina is very common, 1 out of 4 of all pregnant women usually experience it. The fact that a pregnant woman bleeds or spots, does not always signify the presence of a problem, but it could be a sign of miscarriage or even a more difficult issue. 

Bleeding or spotting could happen from the point of pregnancy to the point of birth, spotting means bleeding lightly, and it happens when there is a few drops of blood in the underwear, spotting is so light that the blood would not even cover a panty liner while bleeding on the other hand, is when the flow is heavier, and it is so much that you require a panty liner or a sanitary pad to prevent your cloth or underwear from getting soaked.

My friend experienced just a little spotting, it is possible for a woman to spot during her first trimester for these reasons;
* Implantation bleeding: This could produce some usual spotting within the first 6-12 days of conceiving as the fertilized egg implants itself in the lining of the uterus, usually some women would not even realize they are pregnant as the light bleeding could be mistaken for a light period, most often the bleeding would be light and last from a few hours to a few days.

* Miscarriage is usually common during the first 12 weeks of pregnancy, it therefore becomes one of the biggest concerns with the first trimester. However, the first trimester bleeding does not compulsorily mean that there is a miscarriage. As a matter of fact, if the heartbeat of the baby is still seen on an ultrasound, almost all women who experience first-trimester vaginal bleeding will not have a miscarriage. With miscarriage also comes strong cramps in the lower abdomen and tissue passing through the vagina.

* Subchorionic hematomas: This is when there is a pool of blood in the womb (the uterus), around the sac that the embryo is developing in, it is usually the most common cause of bleeding during the first 12 weeks of pregnancy. The symptoms are abdominal pain and bleeding, usually, it is nothing to worry about, especially at the beginning, but at a later phase, it could produce complications like; late miscarriage, early miscarriage, placental abruption, and preterm premature rupture of the membranes, which is water breaking early.

* Ectopic pregnancy: In the case of an ectopic pregnancy, the fertilized embryo gets implanted outside of the uterus, most often the fallopian tube, in a situation where the embryo continues to grow, it could actually cause the fallopian tube to burst, which could lead to a life-threatening situation to the mother. Although having an ectopic pregnancy is potentially dangerous, it is very rare and only happens in about 2% of pregnancy cases. 

Molar pregnancy is also a very rare condition, where the abnormal tissue grows inside of the uterus instead of the baby, in a rare case, the tissue becomes cancerous and then spreads to other parts of the body.

Cervical changes during pregnancy are when there is an extra flow of blood into the cervix, Infection of the cervix, or the vagina, or the presence of a sexually transmitted infection could lead to bleeding during the first trimester.

The first lesson that my friend's pregnancy taught us is that, vaginal bleeding does not always signify the presence of a problem, so many women have light bleeding or spotting most often without pain during the first 12 weeks of pregnancy. However, it has to be investigated when it happens, whether it comes with stomach pain or not, it is best to contact your doctor.

What I have just shared are possibilities for the first trimesters, I have continued to study and I have found out that, bleeding is also possible during the second and third trimesters, and that could be for a variety of reasons, I will be talking about that in my next post, so I will see you then.
