<img src="https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/orianabeam/ULHL2l1s-PicsArt_10-24-08.28.38.png" alt="PicsArt_102408.28.38.png">

<div class="pull-left">

Pregúntate: ¿Este trabajo/carrera me hace feliz?

</div>
<div class="pull-right">

I have touched on this subject of mental health before in the blog, especially because my mental health has always been a delicate subject and even more so in the midst of quarantine. The fact is that I think it is super important to spread the word about this topic, because the stigmas that still exist around it makes helping people dealing with mental health issues more complicated. That's why today I join the challenge of @naturalmedicine in which it invites us to share a post about mental health using the label #mentalhealthawareness.

In this post I want to touch on several points that I think are important: the stigma of mental health, the importance of taking care of it and finally tips to improve it. First of all I want to clarify that I am not an expert in the subject, I am not a psychologist or anything like that so I will be speaking clearly from my experience.

<img src="https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/orianabeam/81ZS4cfX-PicsArt_10-24-08.24.45.png" alt="PicsArt_102408.24.45.png">

One of the things I remember from my childhood is having friends with serious depressive problems that were not so palpable at first sight, but were evident in other areas such as their school performance. Here in my country there has always been a great denial about this problem, so that parents do not come to consider that their children could have some depressive episode or learning problem. Everything is always handled the same way: <em>Bad grades equal a spoiled child</em>. What a serious mistake to handle things this way! These concepts affect people in their adult lives because they do not receive adequate information on the subject and end up neglecting it. Anxiety, depression, eating disorders and even suicides.

I remember the first time I went to the psychologist, I was 11 years old and was dealing with self-esteem problems, a broken heart, etc. I felt very scared, very strange and above all very ashamed, it was all a secret. If someone had found out at that time that I was attending psychotherapy I would have been the "crazy" one at school. Perhaps if I had seen mental health at that time in the same way that I see it now, I would have had a much more pleasant experience attending therapy.

The detail is that we focus too much on what we can see with the naked eye, such as wounds or physical symptoms, but don't look at what lies beyond, the emotions, thoughts and feelings, and how these can become even more powerful than the first ones or end up affecting them. When we look at what lies beyond, we notice how important our mental health is and that like physical health it deserves to be cared for and monitored.

<h6>How to break the stigma?</h6>
The first step is to recognize it, having depression does not make you pessimistic, going to therapy does not make you crazy. Be a part of these ideas, invite people into therapy and talk naturally about mental health.

<img src="https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/orianabeam/fLj31UQV-PicsArt_10-24-08.27.08.png" alt="PicsArt_102408.27.08.png">

Have you heard the phrase "The mind is powerful"? Well, it's true, and by this I don't mean that your mind can blow up a building hahaha, but it does play a very important role in your stability and fulfillment as a person. <strong>When your mind is right, your whole day, your goals and objectives flow in the right way.</strong>

Your mind affects your body, and if you don't have good mental health it claims physical signs such as migraine, vomiting, diarrhea, rash, burning in the stomach, among others. This is when we realize how important it is to take care of it.

In my case, when I have emotional downturns my stomach is the first to be attacked, I also tend to manifest involuntary movements in my face or hands and that's when I realize I'm getting out of control. I have had to learn to take care of myself, to forgive myself for many things and to treat me with kindness because my mind needs it and if I don't do it, who will? <strong>When I'm emotionally well I'm much more productive, creative, and I'm much more animated</strong>, so I've learned that my mental health is important.

Don't let yourself get to the point of being bad to realize how much you matter, how much your mental health matters, how much you need to take care of yourself.

<img src="https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/orianabeam/ULHL2l1s-PicsArt_10-24-08.28.38.png" alt="PicsArt_102408.28.38.png">

<div class="pull-left">
<h6>Forgive yourself:</h6>
Let go of the blame for past mistakes. There is no point in continuing to torture yourself for things you cannot change. Make a pass at yourself and move on, your mind will thank you.
<h6>Rethink your life:</h6>
Something that can improve your mental health a lot is to be happy with everything you do, with every decision you make. Ask yourself: Does this job/career make me happy? What do I love to do? Your answers to these questions will guide you to what you need to be doing to be happy and take care of yourself.
<h6>Go to therapy:</h6>
There is nothing wrong or embarrassing about going to therapy, nor should you wait to go through a trauma or make a difficult decision to go to therapy. You can go to therapy to get to know yourself, to take care of your mental health, to be more relaxed, to learn how to deal with stress, etc. I honestly think we should all go to therapy at least once a year just like we go to general medicine. Your mind matters too!
</div>
<div class="pull-right">
<h6>Get organized:</h6>
Being organized helps you accomplish your tasks better which makes you feel better about yourself and improves your mood.
<h6>Relax:</h6>
Do things you enjoy doing and relax: Paint, read, take a long bath, exercise, practice yoga, meditate. These are all very healthy activities that can help your brain relax after a hard day's work.
<h6>Write:</h6>
I know I've said it before, but writing for yourself is one of the best things you can do. This practice helps you get to know yourself better, organize your feelings and define your goals. Keep a journal, a notebook, or whatever you want, and write whenever you can.
