<div class=pull-left>I read so many strange and "crazy" things that were lived in the medieval age and one of the most extreme for me is the way people cleaned themselves, this was an average since royalty had access to all "services", but on average it is thought that people only took a shower once a year! therefore we can imagine that hygiene was not important and that is why the black plague appeared in the XIV, when showering was normally done in the exclusive month for marriages which is in May!😲

<div class=pull-left>The first civilizations to inhabit Portugal were the Visigoths, later the Arabs arrived in our lands leaving a nomadic life to settle permanently in different parts of the country, as you can see inside the museum many objects dating from the 13th to the 15th century were discovered. These objects corresponded to the medieval age, you can see ceramic or clay vases that were used to store liquids or products!😮🥃🏰

<div class=pull-left>The museum opened its doors to the public in 2001, what stands out inside the museum is the discovery of the "bread caves" which are those holes that we see in the ground, thanks to these archaeological discoveries we can get an idea of how The Portuguese people lived in the Middle Ages! Actually, it is not only in the museum where "cuevas de pan" are found, there are all over the city of "Almada".🧠🤴👨‍🏫

<div class=pull-left>We could define the "bread caves" as underground structures for the storage of different types of food, especially cereals, which at that time was designated as "bread" as they were placed in large holes, the climatic conditions were controlled and thus the cereal was preserved. Much longer, but the bread caves were not only used to prolong the duration of food, but also to avoid plagues, or theft! They were made in different ways but the most common had a "spherical, elliptical or oval" shape.😮😮

<div class=pull-left>After the cave was built and the cereal was placed inside, the mouth of the cave, which was normally circular, was sealed, it was used to seal clay and then a stone as you see in one of the photos! All this could allow kilos of cereals to be preserved for years, therefore the Arabs were very intelligent when preparing themselves in hard times or when food was scarce in the city. In the city of "almada" which is where these caves are located, it is estimated that there are so many that they probably supplied the entire city of Lisbon with food!🏰👨‍🏫

</div><div class=pull-right>Luego de ser construida la cueva y colocado el cereal dentro se procedia a sellar la boca de la cueva que normalmente era circular, se empleaba para sellar arcilla y luego una piedra tal cual como ves en una de las fotos! todo esto podia permitir conservar kilos de cereales durante años por tanto los arabes fueron muy inteligentes al prepararse en epocas duras o de escases de comida en la ciudad. En la ciudad de "almada" que es donde se encuentran estas cuevas se estiman que son tantas que probablemente abastecieron de comida toda la ciudad de lisboa!🤔📚🍞</div>

<div class=pull-left>When the Arab people were displaced from the Portuguese territory in the 15th century, the bread caves were still used, but as the Portuguese civilization developed, the bread caves stopped being used and instead were used as "dumps" which happened naturally. or intentional! and this was very interesting because many objects that were from the 8th and 19th century were abandoned in these caves and have been preserved to date! among the strangest things found in a cave were two donkey skeletons.📚🧠🤴
