# Revolution
What do me mean when we say *Revolution*?   [dictionary.com](http://www.dictionary.com/browse/revolution) The first two definitions of the seven given, are the ones that are most relevant to this discussion although let's hope it doesn't have to come to the violent bit ! Three  & four are philosophically speaking up the right alley..( 5, 6 & 7 we can ignore, although if you say *revolutions* to me, I'm immediately thinking RPM,  must be the inner nerd.) 


 *  ONE) An overthrow or repudiation and the thorough replacement of an established government or political system by the people governed.

 * TWO) Sociology. a radical and pervasive change in society and the social structure, especially one made suddenly and often accompanied by violence. 

* THREE) Sudden, complete or marked change in something: the present revolution in church architecture.
 
* FOUR)  A procedure or course, as if in a circuit, back to a starting point.

* FIVE) A single turn of this kind.

* SIX) Mechanics, a turning round or rotating, as on an axis.  a moving in a circular or curving course, as about a central point.
    a single cycle in such a course.

* SEVEN) Astronomy. (not in technical use) rotation (def 2). the orbiting of one heavenly body around another. a single course of such movement.

## Revolutions in History
When people think about the word *Revolution* they will usually either reference political and violent revolutions like the  the *French Revolution*  by the people against the Monarchy

or the *American Revolution* by the newly formed European *Americans* against the *British Crown*.

Other people will immediately think about the major upheavals which changed the way of life by improvement of *doing things* and which spread around the globe, such as the the *Early Agricultural Revolution* which first emerged in the *Fertile Crescent* 11,000 years ago which saw humans rapidly move from nomadic hunter gatherers to organised agrarians living in society with divisions of labour and skilled artisans.

Not to be confused with the later *Agricultural Revolution* in Europe, which vastly increased crop yields through improved techniques around the time of the  *Industrial Revolution* which led to the mechanisation, standardisation and mass production of everything from spoons to trains, ships & bridges.

and the more recent *Information Revolution* which opened up horizons we had hardly begun to even dream of by the almost magical invention and mass uptake of the storage, processing and retrieval of information by electronic means !

## The Fourth Economic Revolution - BlockChain 
(which could actually be colloquially referred to) as the *Information Revolution - Part Three* after 1) the introduction and mass adoption of *electronic computing*, 2) the mass adoption of *the internet* as the main conduit for transmission of information and now 3)  a new way of designing and implementing information technology using *encryption and de-centralised networks* as main features;  offering security, high system redundancy and stakeholder consenus as main benefits.

This is where we stand right now. On the Precipice of the democratisation of the world's financial systems through the introduction of de-centralised, stateless and encrypted token based, virtual currencies, which place the emphasis of wealth on the activity and consensus of the users in the system. First introduced in 2009 by the legendary and hitherto unknown, *Satoshi Nakamoto* Bitcoin paved the way for a tsunami of BlockChain projects which are rapidly gaining traction. 

### Highly Disruptive
While this plethora of first generation of currencies are being mined, earned and traded, their structural functioning in the digital economies already have the potential to be highly disruptive, meaning significantly disrupting the existing field to the extent that it radically changes business practices of existing entities and perhaps eventual take over of their place in the market. I think we are witnessing the beginning of a rapidly evolving process that could eventually lead to the end of fiat currencies or at least the digitisation of them in the long term, between the next 50-100 years.

### In the Meantime
In the interim BlockChain technology may bring about significant improvements to a very wide field of currently inefficient and resource heavy activities revolutionising top heavy industry as a side effect. Energy markets, micro banking for the world's poor, cures for incurable diseases, a pathway for Universal Basic Income, eradication of corruption in financial systems, governance and international aid, near zero intra-banking fees, conservation of endangered species, preservation of forests, the list is endless and we're only just starting to dream. 

### The Middleman
Cutting out the *middle man* is a popular idea. For far too long we have all been saddled with intermediary costs which are often hidden and extortionate. The potential of BlockChain Immutability it's inevitable SideChains is not to be underestimated. It is being designed, deployed and rolled out by a generation of radical thinkers & adventurous philosophers who are at least 3 or 5 steps ahead of the natural curve. While some of them may become rich in the process, their intentions are largely leaning towards democratisation of the future and hey let's face it who would you rather give the resources to be in charge of potentially saving the world from the worst of it own excesses at the very last possible moment, Donald or Ned, Dan?
