Musings about Miles and Mileage, a freewrite

Sometimes it feels like @mariannewest has chosen prompts for the week specifically for me. There were quite a few prompts this past week that I could write for, now here is another. This one might just be even more my current cup of tea than the others. 

I drove 1600 miles over the past two weeks, in my tiny but packed-to-the-gills Honda Fit. I love my car, so that helps quite a bit when I have to drive it far. 

I also stayed in six different places over 15 days. Fortunately, there were two longish stays in Airbnbs to give me and my dog some quality time and rest. 

The longer of these airbnb stays was in Vermont, where I was helping my youngest empty out her apartment for a big move from the sticks of VT to the crowded pavements of Brooklyn NY. She got a great job as a carpenter, will be living in a vibrant and fairly safe neighborhood, and is super excited. I am very proud of her. 

Back to the miles I have driven and my car. I love my car, not least because it gets incredible miles per gallon, better than the hybrid cars my friends think are so cool. The dang thing can get over fifty miles to the gallon on country roads! This trip, I arrived home after 1600 miles at an average of 38.3 mpg. I drove quite a bit in NYC during this trip and did a fair amount of local driving, so that mpg is very impressive. 

But boy, am I ever glad to be home.

 Toastless? Are you talking about a previous post of mine? Assuming "chippy" means carpenter, yes! She applied to four jobs, scheduled interviews at two of them, and was offered a great job after the first interview! I'm pretty sure being a woman applying for a man's job in far-left NYC didn't hurt her any, but she is especially passionate about what this particular company is doing (far left stuff), and must have presented really well to have been offered such a good job.
