Nature's Air Purifier

Many of us in the Northeast US are experiencing very poor air quality at the moment. This is a result of the fires in Canada and New Jersey. Let's set aside the suspicion that these fires are being set by TPTB in order to bolster their agendas regarding debatable notion of climate change and what to do about it. What can we do right now, today, to protect ourselves from the excessive pollution in our homes?

Although I have been able to smell the smoke for a couple of days, it got very bad in my area just today. I had been living my life as usual, gardening, going for walks and everything I would normally do, but today, after a tai chi class, I started having difficulty breathing outside. I decided to stay inside, but still found myself unable to breathe fully freely. When the headaches started, which I hardly ever get, I knew I had to do something.

'What about beeswax candles?' I thought. A quick search online, and I found that they might indeed be useful to clear the air inside my home. Apparently, beeswax candles emit negative ions, that bind with air pollutants and pull them to the ground. Vacuum and dust now and then, and you can get the pollutants out of your home.

I lit a couple of these candles, and the headaches went away! My home smells cleaner. I feel safer. Give it a try!!! Make sure you are using 100% beeswax candles, not those fake ones that only have a tiny bit of beeswax in them.

Sorry to hear about the smoke. Good tip on the beeswax candles. I had no idea they were effective in clearing the air.

Good afternoon @owasco, beeswax candles? Never heard of that.

It is pretty bad by us also, a really strange colored sky as well as the smell of burning plastic, at least that's how I would describe it. We are happy to have the planting done, we may just go out for an hour or so later to water some of the little plants, but we will wear masks for sure.
We bought an indoor air filter last year and it really helps, it's been working double time, @thebigsweed cleaned the filters this morning and we couldn't believe how dirty it was, yuck!

Hoping they get these fires out soon and the air clears so we can enjoy the gardens and the new tractor.

I'm so glad you have that filter! It's downright smokey here. No one outside, it's too hard to breathe out there. I'm sorry you can't play with your new toy. That's quite a toy upgrade you guys gave yourself!

Hahahaha, yes we are like little kids at Christmas time. We waited and saved for so long that when we went for it, we celebrated with wine and an excellent meal that evening.

Stay inside if you can and if you go out, wear a mask. My daughter called me early this morning to tell us what we already knew, the air sucks. She is an x-ray technologist in PA and said the ER was loaded with respiratory patients as well as severe headaches. This shit is for real.

I feel for you, several years ago the preserve next to our house caught fire, and we had fire trucks sitting in our yard to spray the house down. For weeks on end, we smelled the fire. I wish I knew about the candles back then, but now I know. Thank you.

Robin told me about what you were doing with the beeswax candles and it seems to be doing the trick. The air quality has improved drastically from yesterday. When I went out on the porch this morning to have my coffee, I was not greeted with the smell of smoke. hopefully, the worst is over!

That's great to hear. It's better here too. It was so cold yesterday I fired up my stove, and the inside of my house smelled more smokey than the outside. But I think I will still keep outside activity to a minimum.
