OK, so picture this...

A hungry skinny black girl just settled in a commuter bus with a feeling of gratitude to have finally gotten a bus to take her home. She was returning from her day job as a customer service agent in a commercial bank here in Nigeria and it's currently 6:30pm. She had closed an hour earlier but needed to compile the team's report which took her another extra hour. A little adjustments here and there, the report was ready and she sent it via email to her team lead saying Dear Kenneth, Kindly find attached...

Unbothered by the heavy Lagos traffic building up in front of her, she placed her head on the glass window for support as she settled in a more comfortable position. The breeze through an open window set the mood as she began to imagine how  she got home and what she did. Her imagination has always been her escape. It just kept her sane. The first thing she did when she got home was to pull off her wig and balance on the tiled floor to swallow the 150naira fufu and egusi soup with one kpomo that she bought from iya Shekira at the estate gate. Her $0.36 dinner is a little bit oily for her liking but she's not complaining because it fills her well. It was the only major food she ate all day as usual with most days. She jumped in the bathroom to get the most needed bath. Just when her bath was getting a lot more relaxing,the bus conductor shouted at her angrily for her fare. Snapping back to reality, she hurriedly paid the bus conductor and came down at her bus feeling slightly embarrassed. Unlike in her imagination, Iya Shekira didn't have fufu that evening, so she settled for rice with plantain and an egg. No meat since she only budgeted 200naira($0.48) for dinner. On getting home she met her two other roommates bags and shoes signifying their return from work and she was a bit disappointed. She always rushed to get home first for a reason and that day she had missed her 'alone' time at home. However, they seemed to have stepped out for something so after taking her bath and eating, she settled on her side of the bed to catch some Zzzzs before her roommates, the original owners, returned from where they went. They always played loud music which affected her sleep a lot but she can't complain because her broke pocket couldn't afford an accommodation and so she lived with gratitude in that little space with her kind friends.

With the confidence that her 5:30am alarm was still on, she made a mental note of her tomorrow morning to-do list which included studying for the weekly training session at her work place. Satisfied that all was well, she allowed herself to drift off to sleep.


Make a repeat of this the next day and the days after. This was me before joining hive! Why and how did I leave? Well, I figured I can't continue like this and with every single month that came and I delayed tendering my resignation just because keeping a 69,800naira ($167.82) salary job seemed to be the most sensible thing to do, I got deeper in a feeling of zero accomplishment. It sucked.

I felt it every waking day, the urge to take the big leap and break the chain of promised poverty if I continued that job all my youthful years. And so I finally quit on the last working day of July,2020 and it's been one of my most proud moments so far in my 27years of existence.  My friends still go to that job and they keep posting pictures of how tired they are on WhatsApp, I couldn't be more grateful to have gotten the courage to quit. 

Since I left the job, I didn't have more reasons to remain in that accommodation which provided proximity to the office, so I moved out but kept in touch with my kind friend turned sister. Now, we are getting to the more interesting part- how I joined hive!

On this happy day, I had called my kind friend @zohu for a gist. I told her about how I wish to make a living working for myself and bingo! She told me about blogging and earning. She cited an example of a good friend of ours @readthisplease  that has been making decent money on the platform and she encouraged me to join because she knew Its something I'll be interested in as a creative person.



Blogging and Earning. That's all I needed to hear. As someone who wanted a fast solution, the idea of immediate monetization didn't need more explaining. To be able to monetize my blog post within 7days sounds too good to be true for someone who just started a youtube channel and was hoping that she reaches monetization someday soon. Finding the hive blog was like finding a confidence boost that reassured me that I had not made a mistake when I resigned with the thought of being the biggest freelancer of all time. The excitement of getting started made me ignore an important aspect of the signup process which led to losing that account after two months of hard work.

Yes, you guessed right. I didn't keep my hive keys! Hold on,scratch that. I didn't keep the keys that mattered! Yup, without waiting to have my friend put me through, I figured out how to sign up on my own. Trying out two of my favorite nicknames, I eventually settled for @faithann which I used for my first account. Oh I generated a lot of keys in my try and error session. For some unfortunate reason, I couldn't find the keys to my account when I eventually decided I'd make my first hive withdrawal. 

Bro! the heartbreak I felt, you'll never know. @thekittygirl  ,  @stayten  @brittandjosie  and @readthisplease did their best to help me find them but what is lost is lost. So, I picked myself up and started this not so new account.

Who would have thought of a world where you learn, meet people, engage, chat, share and earn! It's like what we do on Facebook but this time you earn from engaging and it's amazing to know that I can do the same for people too through my upvotes! It's not free money here, it's just shared money. It's a perfect ecosystem. It's not just a platform for the younger generation who are interested in cryptocurrency. It's a full blown social media platform based on the hive block chain and it's meant for everybody! If you cook, write fiction, play games,or you're business inclined you'll find your place here on hive. My younger sister is a vet medicine student who finds the natural medicine community here on hive a cook spot. I personally dabble between the motherhood, ladies of hive, the inkwell (for writers) and the hive naija community. 

I could go on and on about my experience on the hive block chain but let's put a pause for now. I will not complete this post without thanking @zohu and @readthisplease for sharing the opportunity with me because it has been a blessing so far and I'm loving hive!
