peusijuek comes from the word "sijue" which in Acehnese means cool or soothing. This is consistent with the purpose of the peusijuek tradition itself, which is to cool the heart or soul by drawing closer to the divine. Peusijuek tradition is an expression of gratitude for the Creator for all the pleasures that have been given.
