Luis Fernando Suárez, tras la abultada goleada que le propinó España al conjunto tico, compareció ante los medios de comunicación y sin el más mínimo de los rubores calificó lo acontecido ante el seleccionado ibérico como “Un accidente del fútbol”; hoy los accidentes de la pelota le han favorecido a él y a sus seleccionados pues llegaron al Ahmed bin Ali Stadium buscando cobre y han encontrado el oro de la victoria.
Costa Rica y Japón se enzarzaron en un duelo que careció de emociones sobre los arcos en la primera mitad, pero en la segunda parte, el control del conjunto Japonés se comenzó a tornar en una especie de dominio que invitaba a pensar que los nipones romperían el cero en el arco de Keylor Navas más temprano que tarde.

Japón se fue diluyendo, su propuesta y su fútbol se fueron apagando de a poco, sobre todo tras las modificaciones que realizó el entrenador Moriyasu; a Hajime las modificaciones no le salieron tan bien como contra Alemania, en lugar de ganar potencia, los motores de su equipo fueron perdiendo torque y Costa Rica pudo superar el asedio nipón sin daños colaterales en su meta.
Los ticos no atacaban sino hasta el final, proponían orden a ultranza, guardaban la ropa cerca del arco de Keylor Navas, buscando el no recibir y toda vez que sintieron que a los japoneses se les iba agotando el abanico de ideas -como se cansa un abanico de cubrir el rostro de una Geisha para sucumbir y terminar mostrando esas facciones embadurnadas en denso maquillaje- buscaron algo de cara al frente, un solo remate, uno bastó a los ticos; disparó Keysher Fuller, lo hizo más con fe que con la mejor de las técnicas de golpeo y la pelota terminó colándose en el arco con la colaboración de Gonda, otrora héroe del partido anterior ante Alemania. ¡Hemos de dar la razón a Luis Fernando! Los accidentes suceden en el fútbol y Costa Rica es un accidente de pura vida hasta la última jornada.

## SANGRE CALIENTE Y FÚTBOL

Al terreno de juego del Estadio Al Thumama saltaban dos selecciones con arranques y reflectores muy distintos. Mientras que Bélgica, llamada a trascender en esta Copa por la calidad de los individuos que conforman su plantel, derrotó por la mínima a una meritoria selección canadiense, pero dejó una actuación gris que inundaba de dudas su entorno; Marruecos, subestimada por muchos, paró en seco a la subcampeona del Mundo, y quizá mereció mucho más que aquel empate a cero que cosechó en la primera jornada.
Los de Roberto Martínez tenían la misión de ahuyentar todas esas dudas que flotaban sobre sus cabezas, estaban llamados a hacer 90 minutos de buen fútbol para convencerse a sí mismos y al entorno de que sus cualidades y su fútbol dan para mucho más; pero el planteamiento y las necedades del estratega español del conjunto belga no permiten que ese fútbol de los Diablos Rojos fluya como mejor debería. Hazard -que apenas ve minutos en el Madrid- es el capitán y titular indiscutible como interior en el centro del campo belga; con ello anula al mejor Kevin De Bruyne que, partido a partido en la Premier, nos ha venido demostrando que en esa posición no hay nadie mejor que el ni en Bélgica, ni -probablemente- en el mundo.

De Bruyne es un futbolista sumamente capaz de coger los hilos conductores de cualquier equipo, Hazard dejó de serlo hace mucho; Kevin bien podría repartir el juego de su selección como si de lonchas del mejor queso gouda se tratase y regar el fútbol de esos Diablos con la mejor cerveza belga de su elección, si a ello se le sumara Trossard en el arranque en detrimento del mediocampista del Real Madrid, quizá estaríamos ante un fútbol dulce como el chocolate que corona su gastronomía.
Bélgica no arrancó nunca, Marruecos fue ese equipo dinámico que ya había sido ante Croacia, pero es que, además, hoy sí que encontraron la pegada necesaria para hacerse justicia en el resultado. Ya les habían anulado un gol por milimétrico fuera de juego de Romain Saiss, pero el fútbol dio revancha casi idéntica al defensor y capitán marroquí que al 75’ desvió ligeramente el centro cerrado de Sabiri para adelantar a Marruecos que selló el encuentro en el tiempo de descuento por mediación de Aboukhlal que castigó la tibieza belga. Marruecos tiene sangre caliente llena de fútbol, a Bélgica su infierno se le ha congelado.

Morocco are hot-blooded and full of football, Belgium's hell has frozen over.*

## PISANDO HOJAS DE MAPLE

El otoño, una rara época para jugar una Copa del Mundo, trae consigo sensaciones maravillosas como un buen plato de cuchara calentito tras haber salido a dar un paseo entre los árboles cuyas hojas en tonalidades que viajan desde el naranja al café caen y en su crujir cambian la música y las percepciones de nuestros pasos. La subcampeona del mundo fue gris en su debut mundialista, pero ante Canadá se abstrajo del Estadio Internacional de Khalifa para plantarse en el entorno imaginario de un plácido paseo en cualquier fastuoso bosque Canadiense, los balcánicos anduvieron y en su paso fueron pisando hojas de maple.
Y no es que los de John Herdman no hayan sido capaces de volver a mostrar ese fútbol atractivo que les hizo merecer mucho más de lo conseguido ante Bélgica en su presentación Mundialista tras 36 años de ausencia; de hecho lo hicieron; se bastó Alphnos Davies de 68 segundos para firmar el primer gol de Canadá en la historia de las Copas del Mundo, empujando un gran centro de Buchanan con la testa y la hoja de maple sorprendía a los balcánicos que entraron dormidos; tal y como estuvieron en su prueba inaugural ante Marruecos.

Un duro golpe el que asestaba Canadá a los discípulos de Zlatko Dalic, golpe que sirvió a la subcampeona para espabilar y comenzar a tocar los tambores de guerra; tuvo que encajar un gol Croacia para darse cuenta que la Copa del Mundo había empezado. Al minuto 36’ buena combinación tras un córner que se hizo largo Kovacic activó a Perisic y este último tiró una perfecta asistencia al movimiento de Kramaric que definió a la perfección el empate para que al 44’ Juranovic asistiera a Livaja encontrando la forma de limpiar una progresión que se había ensuciado, el 14 croata no perdonó y los balcánicos se iban al descanso con la ventaja.
En la segunda mitad, Canadá fue un querer y no poder, Croacia se había hecho con el marcador y con el trámite del encuentro, generaba ocasiones varias por ramilletes y el marcador no crecía por obra de Borjan que sostenía la vida de una Canadá valiente pero falta de oficio. Al 70’ Kramaric firmaba su doblete y con ello se convertía en el segundo jugador croata en marcar doblete en un encuentro Mundialista en la historia, tras Mario Mandzukic ante Camerún en Brasil 2014. Ya con Canadá desfondada, al 94, Lovro Majer cerró la fiesta de resurrección balcánica y sepultó toda opción para el conjunto canadiense. Un paseó bálcanico en medio de un bosque otoñal para apaciguar las ansiedades.

## UN GOL ENTRE LA VIDA Y LA MUERTE

Alemania llegaba tocada al duelo contra España, en el Estadio de Al Bayt chocaban dos selecciones Campeonas del Mundo, una con 4 estrellas en su haber y otra que se ha destapado en esta justa Mundialista para ser considerada candidata seria a competir por su segundo entorchado. España vs. Alemania llegaba como un regalo de Navidad adelantada para los amantes del fútbol en esta fase de grupos y sí, ha sido un partido digno de envolver en papel de celofán.
El partido ha sido entretenido, una guerra sin cuartel, un choque táctico y técnico de lo lindo entre un par de equipos que se han respetado mutuamente en los planteamientos, pero no se han tenido ninguna especie de miedo. Si de miedo hablamos, quizá el único esbozo de terror que se le metió al cuerpo a España cuando Rüdiger remató tan solo para adelantar al conjunto teutón, miedo que se esfumó y se transformó en suspiro de alivio tras la sanción del fuera de juego por el VAR.

Miedo sintió Alemania también cuando Jordi Alba asistió de forma impecable por la izquierda a la internada de Álvaro Morata en el centro del área para un definición clínica que ponía a la Roja a pensar en los Octavos de final. Alemania sentía miedo, sin duda, pero supieron vencerlo, supieron apagar los fantasmas de hace 4 años en Rusia para ir de cara, fieles a su naturaleza a buscar un resultado que les diera vida cuando el oxígeno comenzaba a escasear.
España había pasado de una embriagante bacanal de pura vida, como aquellas que se celebraban en la antigua Hispania Romana, a una tremenda lucha de puro fútbol y en esto del balón los rivales cuentan, Alemania ha sacado a relucir el carnet de gran rival y lo ha puesto sobre la mesa cuando más urgencia tenía. Niclas Füllkrug, que había entrado de cambio se estaba enredando con Musiala pero se aclaró y cogió la pelota para golpearla con rabia y convertirla en un misil, un gol entre la vida y muerte; matar a los teutones cuesta mucho… Alemania llegará con vida a la última jornada ante una Costa Rica de la que buscarán hacer sangre.
