Do startups have a drinking problem?

I read a very interesting article about alcohol and startups

The more addicted someone is, the more of a threat someone who abstains is. The narrative is "everyone drinks, it's not just me and my problems" therefore "anyone who doesn't drink is just a weirdo." Personally I never found any great joy in drinking, but lately I am more comfortable with Alcohol and Caffeine; alcohol helps regulate anxiety in stressful situations, and caffeine keeps me alert in situations where I am sleepy or bored. Of course anything but rare use of small amounts creates tolerance and dependency. The amount of caffeine and alcohol people consume over the course of a few months tend to be outrageous (e.g. students).

I have no experience with the type of startup alcoholism she describes in the article, but yes, it sounds like that startup has a drinking problem. I enjoy drinking, but always limited amounts. I make a point of not getting drunk, and I've never felt any pressure to do so. Of course, I'm pretty assertive about that too -- when I've decided I don't want to drink (more), I don't make excuses or apologize, I just say no, and people generally respect that.
