Herpetology is a branch of zoology concentrated on reptiles and amphibians. Catching herps, or looking for herps, or herping, involves locating, catching, or photographing reptiles and amphibians. Last night I had just a couple of minutes of free time as I drove past the lake, so I jumped in with my bow and arrow to try to see if I could shoot any fish. I did not see a single fish that I could have shot during all my time there, but I did see three turtles, and catch them all to check out and photograph. Two of the turtles were large Red-Eared Sliders, but this little on is an Ouachita Map Turtle. If I wasn't a herper and was only a bowfisherman, the night would have been a bust.
