O how much sadness we have in this country - so many people that are homeless, not to even mention the animals.  Thank you for the good work you do.

That sounds like a great idea to teach them to grow their food and sell the surplus! We don't have people scrounging through trash here really. If people are looking for metal, etc. to sell to recycle places, they will actually live at the dump. Yikes. I hope your project works out. Keep us posted! Blessings!! <><

Oh, very interesting sir papilloncharity! What a great project. I hope whoever owns some land will be willing to lend it out.

Waste not, want not a saying that is so pertinent today, we have our weekly visitors to the bags before collection. 

What we have done for many years is any fat from cooking is placed in a glass jar _(old coffee bottles etc.)_, any overripe fruit or veg that is slowly showing age, pieces of unused bread all goes into a separate bag for whoever gets there first.

Similar is done with old clothing, shoes you name it we bag it, these folk never asked to be in this predicament, by placing into a special bag it has become known, some now waiting at the top of the road for the bags to come out.

Self sustaining farming ventures are taking place in rural area close to where we live, people are becoming more proactive than in the past. Too many still living in poverty, really hope your new venture takes off Stephen, every little bit helps.

Excellent idea. We could all use relearning the skills of growing, and making, our own food. I mentioned to someone yesterday that I make my own bread, and he was shocked! If we all knew how easy it was to make bread, and cheap, no one would buy it. The kids could help and learn. We have screwed our culture up royally. Thank you for your work toward putting us back on a track that benefits all of us. 

I love gardening initiatives! If I lived closer I would be with you getting this up and going!

It's the same for gardening - 
Give a man some fresh produce and you feed him for a day 
Teach him how to garden and grow his own food and he will never have to know hunger!

I don't know the details but I love the concept.

Creativity can be a great force-multiplier and when it comes to food production, I have long been fascinated. Google "Growing potatoes in a barrel" for those with limited horizontal space. The same thing can be done with a ton of other vegetables. All the discarded plant parts ... feed it to worms ... worm casting (poop) is the best fertilizer in the world.

My daughter once needed pure methane for a Science Fair experiment. It's very difficult to buy pure methane in the U.S. So, we built a bio-digester and a week later we had an inexhaustible supply of methane. Mind you, it was polluted with CO2 ... so we bubbled it up through calcium oxide. The calcium oxide we obtained by roasting seashells from the beach (drives off the CO2), dissolving them in water and pouring the liquid through a coffee filter. 

We did have one problem: We couldn't exhaust the methane production. We ran it around the clock for days but the flame kept burning. We ended up having to simply dump the unexhausted fuel in a flower bed.

Heat to boil water, cook food and keep warm ... all from old food in the fridge that had gone bad. Restaurants throw out tons of scraps and uneaten food every day. That food if filled with untapped energy.

A wonderful project you have going Sir Stephen - to help those living on a hope and prayer. Great idea to make them as self-sufficient as possible.

It’s sad that in this day and age with so much waste in the world that people still have to live like your photos show.

I see people going through the trash bins here looking for scraps or items they can take to a recycling station to sell always a sad to see
I love the sound of this new project of yours helping them to help themselves I hope you can get it up and running 

these photos are not beautiful, but sometimes things need to be noticed and spoken about. well done.

My respect for you, it is a great project and I know that it is a light for these people that this need is there.

I am not sure from which Proverb this quote is but it is a solution. Poverty is rampant in our country and how I wish I could create jobs to help those in need. Some of them just really need a break to move on with life.

What an awful way to have to try to survive. You know you'll have our support for the good you do.
