More guests arrived to greet us!

I think that bird news flies very fast, as they must have heard about us from the birds at our old home :)

Yes, she is very small and I will also show you her husband in this post. And I even got the bonus of a Raptor bird to show you.

So our fears were answered emphatically as there are also many birds here. We thought that our new home was too small to attract much wildlife, but in hope we placed our pot plants in areas that we thought would be ideal for birds to visit, right outside my study window of course.
This is a two bedroom house, so the one is to sleep in and the other one was christened as our study.

And here was her husband, he is a Southern Double-collared Sunbird (Cinnyris chalybeus)

We also have two little Cape White-eyes(Zosterops virens) that pop in every day.

I snapped this Southern-masked Weaver (Ploceus velatus) that was sitting in a tree across the road.

A pair of Southern Fiscal Shrike birds (Lanius collaris) also visited the house next door.

I think there has to be some mud in the gutter that usually has worms after the rains, but I couldn't get them yet with a worm in their beaks.

And finally a raptor came over up on high. Either an Eagle or a Buzzard, but it was too high to identify.

So yes, we have not planted any of our potted flowers out yet, as I wanted to see which of the flowers will draw the birds. I know that sunbirds favor bell shaped flowers and mostly the red, pink and yellow ones.
That deep blue Salvia string also has nectar, so my thoughts were spot on.
Now we will over time get more plants to make the garden bird and butterfly friendly.
Sadly no squirrels here yet and I have only seen one in the road outside a while ago.

I didn't know you had moved? I got the impression that you had only recently arrived at the place where you were a year or so back, and that there you had ample space.
If all that is true, what caused the move?
If it isn't true then please forgive me for falling out of step with you.

Thanks for the explanation Stephen.
I can definitely relate. My new place is seemingly bucolic, I have woods (my OWN patch of woods) on the back half of my property, the people on either side of me have the same, so it altogether makes a fairly big patch of woods.
I'm about ½ mile from a fairly substantial highway, and just the other side of all those woods is a FIRE STATION with all the sirens that fire trucks and ambulances entail.
I'm also under the glide path to the worlds busiest airport (Hartsfield-Jackson) with a smaller municipal airport even closer, and even with all that, it remains relatively quiet here, until it's not.

Hey Zac. I didn't know that you had moved. I had not seen posts of yours on my feed in a while. I hope all went well and that you guys are happy. You didn't move too far away did you? Haha.

Beautiful photos as always. Your love of birds is only matched by your camera skills! I have almost never seen a hummingbird sitting long enough for a photo.

Our new home (9 months here now) has a bigger garden than the old place. The trees outside have a lot of birds in it most mornings but it is tucked around the corner so usually as I step into the garden then there is flurry of birds scattering into the air. Silly birds.

Hi Zak, yes, we moved almost 4 weeks ago to a quieter place. As usual a lot of work awaits to settle in, but we are used to it. No we haven't moved out of the area, just further away from traffic noises.

No, silly Zak, as all birds will disappear if they see a human approaching.  I get the birds through our study window and you should try to do the same, that is if you have a window that overlooks the garden.
If there is no window then knock a hole in the wall and install a window :)

🤣🤣🤣 naw it's a rental. I don't think they will allow that!

It's an L shaped garden and the majority of the garden where the birds like to go: the big tree, does not face a window.

We are STILL settling in. So much to do. With the busy kids that go to three different schools to my partner who twister her poor knee while also picking up quite a few live performances, we still have a lot going on in the house that can be done.

I have my hands full!
